Pound Gates

[p]This is the collective page for four teams from Pound Gates (including Sevatas and Contior) taking part in The Soma Leo Foundation Row-a-Fun, in May 2019. [/p][p]The event challenges teams from local businesses to row as far as they can throughout the month, competing against each other to be overall winners. All rowing will take place on static rowing machines provided to each team. Between all of the competing teams we are aiming to raise £10,000.[/p][p]Funds raised will support The Soma Leo Foundation, a small Ipswich-based charity established in 2015 to provide education and support to disadvantaged communities in east Africa. This is achieved through the charity's own school, The Soma Leo Academy, in Nyiera, Kenya and by supporting other schools in nearby Osieko.[/p][p]The Academy seeks to achieve excellence by providing safe and clean facilities, high quality teaching with an appropriate teacher to pupil ratio, a varied and interesting curriculum, and nourishment for its 130 pupils.[/p][p]The charity also works with other schools in the area to help them improve their quality standards through loaning computer equipment, the provision of books and teacher development and support.[/p][p]Directors, managers and staff at Pound Gates are involved with the charity either as Trustees or by providing all the administrative resources the charity requires.[/p][p]The money raised through the Pound Gates' teams will provide sufficient funding to run the school for three months. The company is providing additional funding to team members who reach certain thresholds in terms of distances rowed and funds raised.
