My story

[p]I am swimming the Channel in September 2020 to raise money for both Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. [/p][p]Quitting rugby was a difficult but necessary choice due to a back injury. I loved the routine, comradery and competitiveness. Honestly giving up rugby has been tough mentally and physically. [/p][p]Taking up swimming has helped plugged that gap, so I have signed up to swim the English Channel in September which is one of the toughest open water swims going. [/p][p]Parkinson's and Alzheimer’s are two diseases which have touched my family and I feel passionate about raising money to support them. In doing so we will raise money to find a cure, help the people living with the illnesses and also support their family and friends. [/p][p][br][/p][p]My Inspiration[/p][p]?These great men are George my Granddad and Ross my Godfather.??[/p][p]George suffered for many years with Alzheimer’s. He was a man with a great sense of humour and many friends and memories including having bravely fought in WW2. Alzheimer’s is a cruel disease which stripped him of who he was to the point where he could not even recognise his own family. As a young man I found it harrowing to watch a role model seemingly disappear before my eyes. As an adult I am committed to making a change. ??[/p][p]Ross suffered with Parkinson’s for many years. Once a tall, strong man and always the life and soul of the party, Ross was eventually made wheelchair bound and became incredibly frail. It gave me so much grief to see someone who had always worked hard at everything he did, unable to complete the simplest of tasks such as speaking. ?[/p][p]?Both conditions are cruel and unrelenting. They strip those closest to you of characteristics which make them the person you know. Please give generously so that one day we never have to see either of these conditions again.
