My story

[p]Update Wednesday 15th Sep 2021[/p][p]A massive massive thank you to everyone who attended on Wednesday night & also to those who could not make it but sent well wishes & their very generous donations.[/p][p]It was another great fundraiser and it was great to see so many people in person, many for the first time. I have not had a chance since to calculate the total but with the figures I know, we are very close to a £24,000 total which equates to c. £6k to each of the 4 x Charities - Wow!!!! This includes another major backing from the Lehman Brothers Foundation Europe - big thank you again to the Chair & Trustees.[/p][p]Final few thank you’s: The Grocer (played until he was kicked out - brilliant effort - thx Steve); Jane, Mike, Dave & the great team at The Moretown Belle; Ronnie O’Sullivan; Dave Knight; Ray & Gary of R&G Shellfish & Big Greg; Paul Connolly; Andy Deeker (Prime Clean); Lisa Cook (Fleur Couture); The 4 x Charities of course - great to see Nicola from Momentum and Julia & Paul from Red Trouser Day; the donators & all the pool & darts challengers and finally, to all our lovely and generous, friends and family - couldn’t do this without the support from you amazing people. [/p][p]I have added some pictures of the day to the gallery below and here is some highlights of the raffle and auction prize winners: [/p][p](1) iPad - Steve Faulkner - he was so happy & merry with his win that he bought £200 of Red Trouser Day T-Shirts to celebrate! (2) Georgia - lovely lady who’s Mum was treated at the Marsden (3) Craig Kellard - il Bordello £100 Voucher & bottle of Gavi - luckily he loves garlic and pizza![/p][p](1) Ronnie O signed cue - Jamie Tomato (best darts challenger too) (2) Delboy OF&H signed (genuine fake) - Jamie Tomato (3) Pele signed - Maciej Crypto (4) London Golf Club - Josh (should have beat me too!) (5) Martyn Mead - had to settle for Bjorn Bjorg instead of Pele (great bidding war) (6) Red Trouser Day Paul - an early rise for the Shellfish Hamper (7) Michelle Bastin - a visit to the red carpet for Paul Connolly's life story film (8) Russell Downs - has he ditched the Cottagers for the Hammers?[/p][p]Congrats to Mick Tomato too.... best Pool Challenger & winner of the signed Ronnie O pool cue... there was no rule to say you couldn't have 10 attempts!![/p][p]Keep well, Chappers x[/p][p][br][/p][p]Previous Updates:[/p][p]Please join me for my next fundraising event – Chappers’ Pool & Darts Challenge - at The Moretown Belle bar in St Katharine Docks, London - hope you can make it - in support of 4 x Brilliant Charities (SEE BELOW DETAILS)[/p][p]£10 ENTRY to The Moretown Belle - Includes £5 Donation & £5 Drinks Voucher, plus entry into the Raffle[/p][p]There will also be an Auction on the night with some great lots up for grabs[/p][p]LATEST: I am pleased to confirm that in addition to my Pool Hustle Challenge, ‘The Grocer’ will be back on the oche once more taking on anyone who fancies themselves as the next Power or MVG!![/p][p]The POOL Challenge: I will be taking on pool challengers (table, cue & balls - not the wet kind!) in a 12 hour pool shootout on the pool table from 10am to 10pm to try and squeeze as many £ notes I can get my hands on - 'The Grocer' will be in action on the oche from 6pm - It’s only £10 for the pool challenge, all donated to charity - if you beat me - £20 in your pocket and another £10 to the charity pot[/p][p]David Evans, Moretown Belle proprietor is kindly sponsoring our event once again - let’s get his bar buzzing again - MB is a great venue & one half of the bar is reserved exclusively for our use - free use of the pool tables and dartboards too.[/p][p]I last hosted these challenges in Sep ‘19 and in Jun ‘17 (Photo Video) where we raised a significant amount, so looking for a similar success. [/p][p]In support of 4 x Brilliant Charities: [/p][p]Momentum Children’s Charity - Manulife UK’s partner charity - Supporting families whose children are facing cancer or a life-challenging condition[/p][p]Royal Marsden Cancer Charity - Supports The Royal Marsden, a specialist cancer hospital and a world-leading cancer centre [/p][p]Red Trouser Day Charity - raising awareness of colorectal cancer & funds for research at The Royal Marsden[/p][p]Queen’s Hospital Charity - NHS hospital in Romford, Essex - to help support the ongoing fight against COVID-19[/p][p]MY STORY[/p][p]In June 2021, I was fortunate to get the 5 year all clear from bowel cancer at The Royal Marsden. I got lucky back in 2016 with an early diagnosis which gave me a chance to be part of the Marsden’s 10 year deferral of surgery programme. My family and I are truly grateful to The Royal Marsden hospital and their amazing team - they also saved my brother Gary’s life in 1989 and treated my better half Julie, this year and last, so we are truly indebted to them.[/p][p]Following an operation on Valentine’s Day 2016, which revealed a cancerous polyp, my cancer care consisted of 6 weeks of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. This was followed by a regular routine of MRI, CT, colonoscopies, sigmoidoscopies and blood tests. This ongoing surveillance for the last 5 years has become normal routine for me and I feel very grateful to the Marsden and the NHS and lucky to have this ongoing ‘life insurance’ policy.[/p][p]We cannot thank the amazing colorectal team enough - a special thank you to Dr Tait, Prof Tekkis, Mr Kontovounisios, Dr Chong, Professor Brown, Mr Rasheed & their brilliant team for all their life saving work and ground breaking research.[/p][p]I am now also very fortunate to work at Manulife and grateful to have been introduced to their chosen charity, Momentum Children’s Charity, who they have supported during this very tough climate for charities.[/p][p]Finally and most importantly, the main why?[/p][p]No doubt, like everyone reading this message, in the last couple of years in particular, our family and friends have been affected by Covid, Cancer and other Iife threatening illnesses. Without the fantastic charities and hospitals doing the hard work, we would be far worse off.[/p][p]My contribution is for those special people and in particular in loving memory of four special people we have lost too early to Cancer and Covid:[/p][p]Stephen Tucker - Oct 2019 [/p][p]Caesar D’Almeida - Aug 2020 [/p][p]Bradley Morgan - Dec 2020[/p][p]Debbie Lea - Jan 2021[/p][p]Thank you for reading and as ever thank you for your support - I would be very grateful if you could share this and if you are able to donate, that would be very much appreciated [/p][p]Keep well[/p][p]Chappers x[/p][p][br][/p][p]THE REMAINING FUNDRAISING EVENTS:[/p][p][img][/img]On Sunday 10th October I will be running the second of my London Half Marathons for Momentum - The Royal Parks Half Marathon - I am training hard and looking to beat my time of 2 hours and 3 minutes from the London Landmarks Half Marathon on the 1st August[/p][p]Thursday 16th September, I will be helping golf fundraiser supremo, Geoff Morris, organise the annual Red Trouser Day Golf Day at Fairleigh Golf Course - places are still available if anyone is interested in playing [/p][p]PREVIOUS EVENT UPDATES:[/p][p]2nd August Update[/p][p]I managed to complete the first of my mini challenges / events yesterday - The London Landmarks Half Marathon - what an amazing day organised by Tommy’s Charity with the support of City of Westminster & City of London[/p][p]Amount raised to date £1,535 - thanks to your generosity[/p][p]My time = 2 hours 3 minutes 4 seconds - my position = 3,963 - the time of 1 2 3 was impossible, so I though I’d settle for 2 3 4 ;-)[/p][p]The winner - Nick Harris-Fry = 1 hour 11 minutes 54 seconds (almost twice as fast as me - brilliant)[/p][p]Last finisher - Barnabas Kovacs = 14 hours 33 minutes 7 seconds (even more amazing)[/p][p]14,500 entered the race with 10,954 finishing[/p]
