My story

[p] I think I must be crazy, after having major spinal surgury earlier in 2017 I'm now in training for the London Marathon 2018!!!! Those who know me and my family know that my first born, Alex, was born 10 weeks early. The pregnancy seemed to be going well so it was a massive surprise to all. Alex was born by emergancy C-section at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in May 2006, considering he was so early he was an amazing weight of 4lb 1/2oz. On being born Alex struggled to breathe for himself and was whisked away to the Buscot Ward, the special care baby unit. Alex spent the first week of his life hooked up to a ventilator as his tiny body just couldn't cope with the hard work of breathing. He spent a further few days on C-paps, a breathing aid rather than doing the job solely for Alex like the ventilator. The hardest part - I had to go home without him. He was so poorly I'd only been able to hold him once, I hadn't been able to change his nappy, clean him or feed him. How was I a Mum when I couldn't do anything for him? I couldn't do anything to help him get better. This is where BIBS came in. Babies in Buscot Support (BIBS) supports babies and their families on the special care baby unit at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading. Monies raised go towards buying the latest technology and life saving equipment, providing postnatal support to parents and funding facilities on the ward, such as a Family Room and overnight rooms. As a small, local charity BIBS is hugely reliant on the income raised by the incredible runners they call "Team BIBS". In 2018 they need Team BIBS to collectively raise at least £40k to contribute to the £80k cost of 2 new incubators. Alex spent a total of 6 weeks on Buscot and I couldn't have got through without the support of BIBS, from the little things like the constant supply of tea and coffee in the parents room to the hospital flat. Thank you for reading - there is so much more to my story, Alex’s story! The best bit of our story is Alex is now a healthy 11 year old! I can't wait to hold him tight after crossing the line! 26.2 miles here i come! Every single step is for you Alex! You and every other Buscot Graduate! Thank you for visiting my page. Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations. [/p][p]Update: not only will I be running the marathon this year I will also be taking part in the following races whilst wearing my Bibs top with pride:[/p][p]Reading Half Marathon[/p][p]Shinfield 10k[/p][p]MoonWalk (Yes this is for another charity but I will get the Bibs name out there too somehow!)[/p][p]Endure 24 ( 24 hour relay race, team of 5, course of 5 miles, goal is 35 miles within 24 hours!)[/p][p]Great south run 10miles[/p][p]Oh and I have a personal challenge of running 1000 miles within 2018![/p][p]Plus others to be confirmed.[/p]
