My story

[p]I will be raising money for two charities when I run the London Marathon on Sunday 28th April and would love it if you could donate as much or as little as you possibly can, so that I can reach my target amount.[/p][p]The first Charity I am raising money for is called SANDS. The reason for raising money for them is because a friend and colleague, and his wife lost their daughter, Hope, who was born sleeping. He is currently working towards raising money and awareness for infant and child loss himself, by attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the 'most number of people to participate in a football match'. This is currently planned for the middle of next year and I thought I could support him in this by trying to raise money for this charity too. [/p][p]SANDS provides free support to anyone affected by the death of a baby by training thousands of midwives, doctors and other professionals so that they can provide care and support parents desperately need. Any donations will help the charity to continue this training and fund the research to better understand what causes these deaths.[/p][p]The second charity I want to raise money for is Meningitis Now. The reason for this is because I have first hand experience of Meningitis.[/p][p]When I was born I was 4 weeks premature, and about 2 weeks after being born I contracted Meningitis. As you can imagine details about what happened are a bit sketchy, as my mum hasn't a great recollection of what happened, as she tried to cope with everything that was happening at the time, but what I do know is that I was baptised and then given the last rites one after the other by the hospital chaplain as they felt I wasn't going to make it through the night. Luckily for me all of the antibiotics that were continuously being given to me managed to fight of the infection and I made it through. I also count myself as being very lucky because the only long lasting effect of all of this was permanent deafness in my left ear. [/p][p]Meningitis Now needs donations to be able to continue the work they do towards the following -[/p][p] Research. We support research that finds new, and enhances existing, vaccines to save lives and prevent disability[/p][p]Support. We provide specialist support to help rebuild lives and ensure no-one has to face meningitis alone. Our support is a lifeline to victims of meningitis and we will continue to reach out to everyone affected, with practical, financial and emotional support[/p][p]Awareness. We save lives through awareness and education, giving people the knowledge and confidence to say “I suspect meningitis” - fast action saves lives[/p][p]Campaign. We campaign for the introduction of licensed vaccines as soon as they are available in the UK, because time lost is lives lost. We fight for the rights of those affected and use our voice to make sure they get the very best care[/p][p]To continue with this work they need to raise over £3 million every year.[/p][p]If you do read this please donate however much you possibly can afford as these 2 charities provide so much support to affected people that they in turn need our help so that they can continue this great work.[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p]
