My story

[p]2020 marks the 40th anniversary of the London Marathon, and I'm lucky enough to have the opportunity to take part. As I've said before, I'm not the natural athlete in the family, but have discovered a love for running over the past few years. My brother Matthew was a runner with huge potential, having already achieved an impressive 1hr 35 half marathon before he died suddenly aged just 17. It therefore feels fitting to run this iconic marathon to support a charity whose aim is to help young British athletes fulfill their potential.[/p][p]Ron Pickering OBE was one of British sport’s great visionaries. He was a former teacher and national athletics coach, and is best remembered as the voice of athletics on BBC commentaries and iconic programmes such as Superstars. [/p][p]Since it was set up in 1991, the Ron Pickering memorial fund has raised and awarded over £2 million in small but significant grants to several thousand talented young British athletes. The majority of the British athletics Olympic teams in 2008, 2012 and 2016 received support from the fund at some stage of their careers, and it continues to support the young athletes of the future.[/p][p]Every penny raised will make a difference to a young, promising athlete somewhere in the UK, allowing them to help reach their full potential. Donations made through Virgin Money Giving will be quickly processed and passed to the Ron Pickering Memorial Fund. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on the charity's behalf where the donor is eligible. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p][p][br][/p]
