My story

[p]My challenge[/p][p]I've done it!. I walked the Coast to Coast path completing on Sept 18th 2019. I walked over 200 miles in 15 days (including a few wrong turns), over peaks, dales and moors, across the heart of our country. I walked through torrential rain as well as sunshine! Every day was an adventure and it was great to have support from others such as Ernie and Veronica who introduced me to the work of IMPACT.[/p][p]I am so grateful for the health I enjoy and the medical health services I have access to whenever it's needed. There's still time to support and help me to reach my target for people who cannot access healthcare, to bring the gift of health, restored sight, education and survival to hundreds of people in Bangladesh. [/p][p]Making an impact[/p][p]IMPACT Foundation believes that no one should remain disabled through disease, lack of knowledge or shortage of medical supplies. For over 33 years this West Sussex based charity has used all available means to take medical treatment, surgery and preventative care to people living in the most remote and inaccessible parts of our world. [/p][p]Working in Asia and Africa, IMPACT's solutions are straightforward and cost effective. They work with local people, ensuring projects meet real need and giving people the knowledge and skills to help themselves.[/p][p]Taking the hospital to the people[/p][p]Twenty years ago this year, the charity developed and designed a floating hospital - Jibon Tari (boat of life) - to take vital healthcare to the remote riverside communities in Bangladesh. Many thought it was impossible, to take the surgical skill and a safe environment to one of the world's poorest locations. Through Jibon Tari over a half a million people have received life changing surgery they would never have had. For example, one cataract operation takes only twenty minutes to restore a person's sight and costs just £40. The impact is much wider, as the gift of sight enables the person to fulfil their potential, to work and contribute in their family and community. Many more families benefit through the health education work that empowers people to take charge of their lives. Local health workers and teachers attend training on the boat, ensuring local knowledge and capacity grows when the Jibon Tari moves to another location.[/p][p]For more information go to www.IMPACT.org.uk [/p][p]Please support and give what you can:[/p][p]£10 provides a safe birthing kit for a traditional midwife [/p][p]£27 provides physiotherapy and mobility aids to restore movement [/p][p]£40 provides the gift of sight, hearing or repairs a cleft lip on a child [/p][p]Thank you. Your support has the power to change lives! [/p]
