My story

[p]As many of you will know by now our son Noah was born in October 2016 with complex congenital heart problems. The first six months of his life were very traumatic and we spent this time living in Southampton general hospital on ocean ward and the peadeatric intensive care unit. Noah was extremely ill during this time and had two open heart surgeries. We were told at one point he had a 50:50 chance of survival. Not something any parent ever wishes to hear. However, the amazing team at Southampton and above all his heart surgeon Mr Kaarne worked what is to us a miracle! At six months old, Noah came home and we were able to start our life as a family of three. We owe so much to the team at Southampton hospital, they are world class at what they do.[/p][p]Motivated by our experiences with Noah and knowing that there are other parents right now going through what we did, I wanted to find a way to give back and support them. I’ll be walking the 26km of the isle of Wight challenge to raise money for the Murray Parish Trust. You can read more about the charity below and what they are currently raising funds for. [/p][p]The Murray Parish Trust raise vital funds to advance paediatric emergency medicine, ensuring children affected by major trauma have the chance to receive the best emergency care.[/p][p]Set up by Sarah Parish and James Murray, the charity was created in memory of their late daughter Ella-Jayne, who died from congenital heart failure in 2009.[/p][p]Since founding The Murray Parish Trust in 2014 we have helped raise over £2.5 million for Southampton Hospital. This includes funding for a brand new Children’s Emergency & Trauma Department, 2 new bed bays for the PICU, a full-time counsellor and a specialist helicopter gurney to transport critically ill infants via Air Ambulance. Our current fundraising appeals will continue to benefit children from across our region as we raise funds for a Specialist Intensive Care Children’s Bed and a 3D Modelling Printer for paediatric cardiac patients.[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p]
