Team story

[p]Hi, thanks for visiting our page raising money to rebuild Antarastriya Yuba Barsa Secondary School, Ramechhap following the April 2015 earthquake.[/p][p]Over the last 2 years we have been amazed and encouraged by the supporting and commitment of so many helping to raise money.[/p][p]Enormous thanks to:[/p][p]-all the schools who are joining our 40 schools fundraising challenge this year[/p][p]-the Eden Singers for their wonderfull concert on 8th October in Bolton.[/p][p]-the walkers (28!) who successfully completed the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challange on Saturday 25th June, thank you all for your amazing support![/p][p]-the Coast to Coast Cycle team of 20 riders who have also done an amazing job fundraising for our school[/p][p]Your donations will be quickly processed and passed to our UK based partner charity. All of the money will go directly to supporting the school, there are no paid UK staff we are all volunteers. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p][p]We first visited this school whilst trekking in the region in April 2015 before the earthquakes and talked with the inspiring headteacher Kamal Bikram with whom we are in regular contact. You can see a slide show about the project at www.rebuildingschoolsnepal.org  In October we will return to the school to see progress and assess current needs.[/p][p]To date in total we have raised over £18,000. £1200 has funded stationary at the school for 2 years, and £1,500 has helped re-establish a safe drinking water supply for the school for the first time since the earthquakes and funds for the compost toilets are in place. The roads are still in poor condition which hampers travel of supplies and equipment to the school. We visited in October 2016 and were able to see the stationary and water supply in place. The children are still having classes in bamboo shelters which offer little protection from the rain, wind and cold.[/p][p]We are hoping to raise a total of £35,000. to fund building of classrooms, science equipment, IT and library resources to enable children to study for their +2s (A level equivalent) which will enable them to go on to study for professions.[/p][p]Do see www.rebuildingschoolsnepal.org for more infomation[/p]
