My story
[p]Every minute 20 people leave everything behind to escape war, persecution or terror. Many are trapped in Greece. [/p][p]Please support the legal clinic in Athens and the essential pro bono work of UK lawyers who come, stay and work at their own expenses to help refugees with FAMILY REUNIFICATION in Greece and across Europe.[/p][p]Tell your family, friends and colleagues about the project. ALL funds raised on this page will be sent to RLS Athens for service delivery.[/p][p]REFUGEE LEGAL SUPPORT is a voluntary organisation run by London based experienced lawyers practising in EU asylum and international protection law. It was set up in 2017 as a response to the lack of action by European governments to observe and honour the rights of refugees arriving on the shores of Greece.[/p][p]Since April 2017 more than 75 London lawyers have taken turns in Athens and provided much needed free professional advice to 1600 refugees by operating a pro-bono clinic in the city. They fund their own travel and are not paid for their work. But funds are needed for the day to day running of the local operation and the coordination of over 500 open cases.[br][/p][p] £20 pays for a refugee interpreter for an initial appointment[/p][p] £30 pays for the clinic’s telephone bill for a month [/p][p] £50 enables our Greek lawyer to attend an asylum interview with one of our vulnerable clients to ensure their rights are upheld[/p][p] £100 enables a volunteer lawyer to assess evidence and draft representations for a family reunification case [/p][p] £150 enables our Greek lawyer to write post-interview representations for a vulnerable client in addition to attending their asylum interview[/p][p] £500 enables our lawyers to fully prepare a complex family reunification case[/p][p]Thank you[/p][p]-------[/p][p]On Monday 27 June 2019, 36 walkers fundraising for REFUGEE LEGAL SUPPORT joined 15,000 lawyers and legal workers on the 10km LONDON LEGAL WALK.
