My story

[p]My daughter Jessica was admitted to Evelina Children's Hospital in early December 2018. At the time she was in terrible pain and couldn't walk. She was later diagnosed with miliary tuberculosis. The scans showed the bacteria had penetrated her entire body, including her brain and spinal fluid, her eyes, lungs, spleen, and the bone in her hip. [/p][p]Treatment is a cocktail of daily antibiotics, steroids and painkillers, plus as much physio as Jess can cope with. After 5 months, Jess is learning to climb stairs. [/p][p]Jess will likely need ongoing treatment for two years in order to be free of the disease, and perhaps longer to regain normal mobility. She was a talented athlete, gymnast and dancer. Her competing days were ended by this disease, but there is hope she will be active again. [/p][p]The care at the Evelina has been phenomenal, and as a single parent family we have needed considerable support. We have seen other children come in at death's door, and leave full of energy only days later. [/p][p]As Jessica's father, it's my job to keep her safe and well, but I couldn't do that without the team at this hospital. There isn't thanks enough for what they do every day here. [/p]
