My story

[p]Well! Here is my story and why I am trying to raise money for the Smile4Wessex charity.[/p][p]Back in last summer my dad was taken ill suffering from prolonged headaches. He was then rushed to Southampton General Hospital to be operated on to clear a Blood clot on the brain. Thankfully to the expertise of the doctors at Southampton General hospital he is and feels a lot better.[/p][p]When I was 7 years of age, I was unfortunately run over receiving severe brain damage. Thanks to Southampton General hospital (Neurological unit). They worked their magic on me after 3 months in hospital and I was released in a wheelchair and unable to speak properly due to memory loss. It was a slow road to recovery but I eventually got there. Thanks to the wonderful care of Southampton they gave me the life I enjoy today.[/p][p]Sadly back in April 2006 I suffered from what is known as a thunder clap headache. Both my mum and dad noticed that I was looking pale and that there was something wrong with me. They called the 101 emergency service number to try and get some idea on what was happening. Then the person on the other end of the line despatched an ambulance to have a more thorough look at me. I was then taken to Royal Bournemouth Hospital where they accessed me. Their first diagnosis of the headache was only a migraine and I was then sent home to rest. [/p][p]A couple of days later I was still rather unwell and still suffering from severe head pains. My mum was checking on me and asked how I was feeling. Then took it upon herself to call out a GP to check over me. My local GP came out to have a look at me and try to make sense of why I was still unwell. He decided to get me to Hospital to have a CT scan to determine what was going on. The GPs fear was that I suffered a brain aneurysm and felt I needed specialist help immediately.[/p][p]In Bournemouth Hospital where I had the CT scan the results from the scan came through and the panic bells then started. They then rushed to The Neurological Unit in Southampton where they could treat me for what then was found out to be a bleed in the brain and to be able to operate on the bleed. Within the Hospital I was treated with the upmost care and I thank them for the help they gave me to live. I believe that if I didn’t get treated in time I feel that if it went on for another day then I most probably would not be here today to tell the tale.[/p][p]I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Wessex Neurological Unit in Southampton General Hospital for all they have done for me and my family. I hope to raise as much money as I can to say and thank them for the opportunity they gave me to live and ride . So! There is my story and the reasons why I am riding the night rider and doing it for the Smile4Wessex charity.[/p][p]Thank you Wessex.[/p][p]Kind regards,[/p][p]Richard Joy.[/p]
