[p]In 2017 John Leech, Greg Stanton and I ran the Manchester 10K for CMV Action. For us, CMV Action is an important charity that fights for a cause that is close to our hearts. We know people who have been affected by CMV and throughout the year we want to help raise money and much needed awareness of the condition and CMV Action.[/p][p]What is CMV?[/p][p]CMV, or Cytomegalovirus, is a common virus that can infect people of all ages. Once CMV is in a person’s body, it stays there for life. Most healthy adults and children who become infected will have no signs or symptoms and no long term effects from CMV. It can however pose serious risks to unborn babies if a pregnant woman catches it for the first time. Congenital CMV is when a baby has been infected before birth. It is one of the leading causes of hearing loss in children and one of the main causes of childhood disability. [/p][p]Who are CMV Action?[/p][p]CMV Action is a UK organisation of parents and volunteers who have come together to raise public awareness of Congenital CMV and to campaign for better prevention measures within our health service.[/p][p]They offer advice, support and friendship to anyone affected by Congenital CMV. They are able to put families in touch with each other who may be facing similar issues or live nearby.[/p][p]They advocate for families affected by Congenital CMV and support them in ensuring that they receive the best possible service from their healthcare, education and social work providers.[/p][p]They work with a number of medical professionals who have an interest in Congenital CMV and support much needed research in this field. They aim to publicise any new CMV research findings via our website and social network pages.[/p][p]Research is currently under way for a CMV vaccine and it is our hope that, one day, it will become widely available. As part of their campaign they continue to stress the need for a vaccine to health professionals and policymakers by highlighting the devastating impact of CMV.[/p][p]Why am I raising money for CMV?[/p][p]CMV has affected people that I know. There is nothing more amazing than to see people stand up and fight for the future of their child. If parents of children affected by congenital CMV can show that fight, then I can join them in raising awareness for the disease. Please give all you can and tweet/facebook like and share and help raise awareness today.[/p][p]You can read one of many stories below:[/p][p]http://www.tubetochicken.org.uk/about-me-and-cmv/ [/p]
