My story

[p]I have run at least one marathon each year for the last 20 years. In all I have run 35 marathons, including 7 ultras. Despite still undergoing treatment for advanced and aggressive prostate cancer which depletes my stamina and slows me down significantly, I'm determined to keep my "streak" going and so I'm running a marathon on 4th October 2020, London Marathon Day. I will run a Covid-19 friendly, socially distanced and unofficial marathon 5 times around Knole Park near where I live in Sevenoaks, Kent.[/p][p]I have chosen two charities to run for, both of which are dear to me: Build Africa (now part of Street Child), for which I have run most of my marathons in the past and which builds schools and supports communities in the remote regions of Uganda and Kenya and Prostate Cancer Research Centre, which works to find innovative treatments for advanced prostate cancer.[/p][p]Please give generously to support these charities which like many charitable causes have suffered during the pandemic. Wish me luck![/p][p]Richard[/p][p]28/09/20 Update[/p][p]I am blown away by everyone's generosity and kindness. Thank you so much to all my supporters. I have smashed my fundraising target within a week. On training I ran a half marathon along the course in Knole Park on Saturday. It's hilly and tough, especially into the wind. I'm afraid my time is going to be awful - probably around 6 hours - but with all your wonderful support I will get it done![/p][p]04/10/20 Update[/p][p]I finished in 5:58:45. Horrible conditions. Wet cold and windy. Another one done. I had some great support runners from Sevenoaks AC - couldn’t have done it without them. My wife, Alyson was there throughout - she must have been frozen. Thanks to all my fantastic supporters; your generosity makes it all worthwhile.[/p][p][br][/p]
