My story

[p]Having experienced the effects of mental health issues on young people and the gaps in provision from public health services, I wanted to raise money for a charity that helps young people and their parents get the help that they need, when they need it. [/p][p]One in four young people show some signs of mental ill health yet most of them are unable to access support from the NHS. YoungMinds plays an essential role in helping and educating young people on mental health and provides help to their parents and carers at the point that it’s needed. [/p][p]Here are just some examples of the amazing work that YoungMinds does:[/p][p]· Workshops for young people supported by others who have been through similar challenges[/p][p]· Emergency text number for young people that received over 4,000 messages last year[/p][p]· Parents helpline to provide critical help and guidance for parents and carers - helping over 11,000 last year[/p][p]· Providing a wealth of straight talking online resources covering all aspects of mental health to help young people and parents - viewed more than 4.5million times last year[/p][p]· Social media content created by young people for young people with mental health challenges[/p][p]· In conjunction with other charities, providing much-needed education in schools on the topic of mental health[/p][p]· Engaging young people directly in YoungMinds service provision and direction to ensure that it continues to deliver the services that are needed[/p][p]· Political lobbying and campaigning to improve public service provision for those who need it [/p][p]It costs over £5m a year to provide these critical services with 60% coming from donations and fundraising.[/p][p]Every step of the training in the cold and rain and of course the race itself will have real meaning. Please help me raise as much as possible to support the incredible work that YoungMinds does.[/p][p]Thank you![/p][p]Richard[/p]
