Team story

[p]Also raising for The Black Curriculum: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/the-black-curriculum-national-programmes[/p][p]Whilst embarking upon a lockdown stroll through London Fields, James and Cameron were having a rare and noble introspective discussion as to ways in which they could do something worthwhile with their time to give something back as the world returns to normality, which naturally progressed into the idea of cycling from where they live in London (Dalston) to Cameron's home in Edinburgh, all over the course of 7 days.[/p][p]With very little experience - or desire - to get on a bike, this was always going to be a challenge, so they did the righteous thing and rallied up some support in the form of their (significantly fitter) girlfriends, Charlotte Holmes and Abby Cammack, along with an awkwardly sounding (also much fitter) fellow half Scotsman, Tom Young.[/p][p]The derrière pain that we shall be putting ourselves through will be in aid of two charities, firstly The Diabetes Research & Wellness Foundation (DRWF), whom you can donate for through this Virgin Money Giving page and secondly, The Black Curriculum, whom you can support using the link above.[/p][p]In case not already aware, 2020 marks the 20th anniversary of Cameron being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, whilst also coinciding with being the 20th anniversary of DRWF being registered in the UK. Meanwhile we shall also be riding in honour and commemoration of Cameron's grandmother (Dr. Norna Cooper) who very sadly passed away earlier this year, who was an avid supporter of Diabetes charities in efforts to eventually find a cure. Meanwhile The Black Curriculum carry out a range of excellent work to ensure that an accurate account of Black History is incorporated to the curriculum for schools throughout the UK, something which is close to all of our hearts in doing what we can to put an end to the structural racism which sadly exists in many aspects of society today.[/p][p]For those of you who are interested, you will be able to follow our pain, laughter and fundraising efforts along the way using the Instagram hashtag #Ride2RaiseLDN2EDI[/p][p]Any donations, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated.[/p][p]#RidetoRaiseLDN2EDI in the press[/p][p]https://www.drwf.org.uk/news-and-events/news/drwf-fundraising-cycling-team-ride-london-edinburgh[/p][p]https://www.scotsman.com/health/fundraiser-living-diabetes-cycle-london-edinburgh-grandmothers-honour-2923525[/p][p]https://www.hackneygazette.co.uk/news/hackney-cyclists-plan-dalston-to-edinburgh-charity-bike-ride-1-6774754[/p][p]All the best,[/p][p]James ("Straight Talk Jim") York[/p][p]Cameron ("Ronny Roadster") Muir[/p][p]Charlotte ("Rollin'") Holmes[/p][p]Abby ("AerodynAbby") Cammack[/p][p]Tom ("The Undertaker") Young[/p]
