My story

[p]10 August 2019: Robert has now passed the 17500 mile mark of cycling and has 458 miles to go to complete the official 18000 miles required. Please consider supporting Robert as he works so hard to support others through his actions.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Hi, I'm aiming to cycle round the world solo. 18,000 miles, 5 continents and 25 countries. It will be both a physical and mental challenge whilst experiencing a variety of cultures and interesting people on the way.[/p][p]Through the ride I’ll be aiming to raise money for two very worthwhile charities, Traidcraft Exchange and Cancer Research.[/p][p]I have always been impressed by Traidcraft’s approach to fighting global poverty through trade to help people transform their lives. I was one of the first ever Traidcraft representatives in the early 1980’s and was responsible for bringing Traidcraft and the Fairtrade movement to Nottinghamshire and the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham. I am hopeful that I may be able to visit some of the producer groups on my way through India and south-east Asia. Traidcraft Exchange is the charitable arm of Traidcraft and works with some of the world’s poorest farmers, producers and artisans, helping them to work their way out of poverty.[/p][p]Sadly, in 2017 my mother died from stomach cancer. I’ve always been one for root causing a problem and dealing with the issue so that the problem doesn’t arise in the first place. This is exactly what Cancer Research is doing trying to find cures for cancer so that cancer can be beaten as has happened so successfully by the application of medical science to many other diseases and conditions.[/p][p]Further details of the ride can be found at www.robertsride18000.com[/p][p] Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p][p]I look forward to you joining me later in 2019 as I arrive at Bramcote Hills Park, Nottingham NG9 3JT at 10.00am. Bring your bike and cycle the final mile with me.[/p]
