My story

[p]Over 18 months I cycled solo over 18,000 miles across 29 countries and 5 continents returning home on October 19th welcomed by many friends, former colleagues and supporters.[/p][p] It has been the most fantastic adventure, both a physical and mental challenge whilst experiencing a variety of cultures and interesting people on the way. Crossing mountain ranges and deserts and cycling through floods, hurricanes and one earthquake.[/p][p]The story of my ride for "Robert's Ride 18,000 - the Movie" is available online on YouTube.[/p][p]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Na4LnZndEwQ[/p][p]I am raising money for three very worthwhile charities, Traidcraft Exchange, Cancer Research and BREAD.[/p][p]I have always been impressed by Traidcraft’s approach to fighting global poverty through trade to help people transform their lives. I was one of the first ever Traidcraft representatives in the early 1980’s and was responsible for bringing Traidcraft and the Fairtrade movement to Nottinghamshire and the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham. I am hopeful that I may be able to visit some of the producer groups on my way through India and south-east Asia. Traidcraft Exchange is the charitable arm of Traidcraft and works with some of the world’s poorest farmers, producers and artisans, helping them to work their way out of poverty.[/p][p]Sadly, in 2017 my mother died from stomach cancer. I’ve always been one for root causing a problem and dealing with the issue so that the problem doesn’t arise in the first place. This is exactly what Cancer Research is doing trying to find cures for cancer so that cancer can be beaten as has happened so successfully by the application of medical science to many other diseases and conditions.[/p][p]BREAD (Berega Relief Equipment And Development Trust) raises funds for famine relief and development work in the village of Berega, Tanzania. All the projects are run in conjunction with the Diocese of Morogoro and include work in the Hospital, Kindergarten, Orphanage and Lay Training Centre.[/p][p]Further details of the ride can be found at www.robertsride18000.com[/p][p] Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p][p][br][/p]

Well done for making a movie of the ride too. Shame we can't see on the big screen at the Savoy but a DVD will be the next best thing!
