My story

[p]Hello,[/p][p] [/p][p]Thank you for visiting my page.[/p][p] [/p][p]On the 14th April 2018, I will be starting a run of over 1000km from Toulouse in southern France to Santiago in Spain following the Camino De Santiago, also known as the way of St James.[/p][p]?[/p][p]I have wanted to do this since I watched a film called "The Way" with Martin Sheen in 2011.[/p][p]?[/p][p]I have selected 3 charities who will benefit from the money that you are about to donate towards.[/p][p]?[/p][p]Great Ormond Street:[/p][p]A few years ago, my niece Jemma was taken ill and rushed to hospital. she was diagnosed with a heart condition that was rapidly deteriorating, within weeks Jemma had slipped into a coma and was rushed to Great Ormond Street Hospital. Luckily for Jemma a heart was found that was a very good match and she had her life saving transplant.[/p][p]Going forward a couple of years and Jemma's brother, Michael, started suffering from the same heart condition. Again, the staff at Great Ormond Street were amazing and performed a heart transplant for Michael. [/p][p]Great Ormond Street Hospital has saved the lives of not just Jemma and Michael but countless numbers of children over the years. The work they are doing there is changing lives every day and I am so proud to run for them.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Aspire:[/p][p]When I was 20 I was out on exercise with the Army and fell into a 13-foot trench. I didn't know at the time but I broke my back in 5 places. I was incredibility lucky as I picked myself up and carried on for 24 hours before I had an X-ray to be told the news about the 5 broken bones.[/p][p]It took me months to get over the initial damage that I had done to myself, I still suffer from back pain and nerve damage. I know how to manage it now and staying fit and healthy is a massive part of that management.[/p][p]Aspire as an organisation that help everyday people like you and me to overcome life changing injuries, showing them how health, fitness and life continues.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Marie Curie:[/p][p]Cancer does not just impact one person in a family, it impacts lots and repercussions can be felt throughout the whole family. Sadly, we all know of someone who has been diagnosed with cancer. The work and support that Marie Curie provide is truly amazing. Finding a cure for all the different types of cancer is really important, but supporting people and their families who are affected now should never be overlooked.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Raising Awareness:[/p][p]The final reason for doing this run is to raise awareness for health and fitness in the workplace.[/p][p]20 years ago, my fit and healthy dad died suddenly from a massive heart attack at the age of only 57 while he was working in Germany for Airbus Industries. As with any passing it left a very large hole in our family.[/p][p]?[/p][p]Our health and fitness is the most important thing that we have in our lives, without these 2 things we are unable to look after others or ourselves.[/p][p]There are far too many people who just sit-down all day at work, then drive their cars, sit on trains to get home and do not exercise or take care of their bodies.[/p][p]?[/p][p]I want to raise awareness to companies out there that your staff, the people that you employ are your company’s life blood, without them being fit and healthy your company is not fit and healthy.[/p][p][br][/p][p]So, starting on the 14th of April 2018 my plan is to start from the centre of Toulouse and run to Santiago in Northern Spain in around 17 days covering over 1000km in total.[/p][p][br][/p][p]I will aim to run between 30 - 40 miles a day so please dig deep, and support me on this journey and let’s raise money for 3 amazing charities and awareness for our own health and fitness![/p][p][br][/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p]
