My story

[p]I'm taking the 2.6 challenge for Turner's House Trust and Richmond MIND by rowing (indoors) for 26mins whilst watching a film of JMW Turner's oil sketches that he painted from a rowing boat on the Thames.[/p][p]The funds raised will support the wonderful Learning programme at Turner's House where they work through local schools and with other partner charities to bring some of Turner's inspiration to young and old. The funds will also be shared 50:50 with Richmond Mind who provide valuable mental health support to our local community and who Turner's House work with.[/p][p]Last year I volunteered to join one of our local primary year 6 classes in their school for their "Turner in Twickenham" project. The children shared the history they had learnt during a visit to the house - from Turner's story (born a Georgian, died a Victorian, a phenomenal painter who also designed this house) to the shadow factory in the house in WWII. They showed me the "colour wheels" they made and were using in art. You can see the collage they created to replicate Turner's view from his bedroom window (when lockdown is over visit the house to see the re-creation of the view through a telescope). This year's classes have their projects postponed because of COVID-19, we want to make sure the Trust has to funds to be able to run them when lockdown lifts.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Sir David Attenborough speaking at Turner’s House, January 2020 said: [/p][p]I can imagine Turner now walking to Richmond Park, there is a lot of Turner still around here, but you won’t find it as vividly and as movingly as you do in this most beautifully and lovingly restored house. [/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p]
