My story

[p]I will be running, rowing, cycling and walking a mile for every person lost to suicide in 2018 in Scotland (784 miles). I will be completing the following;[/p][p]#Calories4Casualties to remember the 71 military personnel who took their own lives last year. I will be challenging people to complete 71 calories once in any way they wish to remember those lost, before sharing it with their friends[/p][p]Edinburgh Marathon row - April 20th Merchiston Castle School - 26.2 miles (Completed in 3 hours 21 seconds)[/p][p]Stirling Marathon run - 28/04/2019 - 26.2 miles (Completed in 3 hours 46 minutes)[/p][p]Cycling from Leith to Glasgow - 06/05/2019 - 60 miles (Completed in 3 hours of cycling)[/p][p]Walking and completing a CrossFit workout dedicated to lost servicemen and women atop Ben Nevis - 12th May 2019 (Centenary anniversary of Combat Stress) - 8 miles with barbell & weights (Completed - highest workout ever completed in UK)[/p][p]Glasgow Marathon Ski-Erg - 18/05/2019 Crossfit Airdrie - 26.2 miles (Completed in 3 hours 6 minutes)[/p][p]Edinburgh Marathon run - 25/05/2019 - 26.2 miles (Completed in 3 hours 56 minutes)[/p][p]Great Glen Way - 01/07/2019 - 78 miles (Completed)[/p][p]Cycling from Oban to Inverness - 12/07/2019 - 109 miles (Completed)[/p][p]Cycling around the borders to Edinburgh - 155 miles (Completed)[/p][p]Walking up Ben Lawers and carrying a 26kg rowing machine to complete a 5000m row on the summit - 10 miles (Completed)[/p][p]Newcastle Marathon row - 26.2 miles (Completed in 2 hours 53 minutes)[/p][p]Combat Stress Half Marathon Run - 07/09/2019 - 13.1 miles (Completed in 1 hour 36 minutes)[/p][p]Inverness Marathon run - 06/10/2019 - 26.2 miles (Completed in 3 hours 43 minutes)[/p][p]Loch Rannoch Marathon - 13/10/2019 - 26.2 miles[/p][p]Cycling from Edinburgh to St. Andrews and back - 107 miles[/p][p]Suicide is the biggest killer of men under 45. Suicide in young men increased for the fourth consecutive year last year in Scotland and on average, 12 men took their lives a day last year around the UK. 1 in 9 young people in Scotland have attempted suicide and 1 in 6 have self harmed. 71 servicemen and women took their own lives in 2018. Suicide remains a huge issue and a taboo topic. Each suicide affects 32 people's lives so it's a huge issue that will affect us all or someone we know at some point.[/p][p]I don't know anyone who hasn't been affected in some way by mental health and I have had my own struggles. I would love to hear and engage with any families or communities who have lost someone to suicide. If you'd like to get involved with any of the events or allow me to dedicate one of the miles specifically to your loved one, please get in touch.[/p][p]I have set a very ambitious target of £40,000 for this challenge which represents over £50 for each person lost or over 8000 calls from those in need. £5 covers a call for help from someone struggling to cope and could save a life in the future.[/p][p]Apologise, listen, be kind, forgive one-another and let people know you care, it could change or save a life.[/p][p]No one is an island. It's ok to be not ok.[/p]
