My story

[p]January 5th set off my 16 week training program to hopefully finish the London Marathon in April. Training and the race is going to be tough as my hips have been rendered knackered by arthritis. Each run results in discomfort, and at times painful for days. But this is nothing to what my wife Lisa struggled with last spring. [/p][p]Lisa came seriously close to losing her life, and spent time in a coma in James Cook ICU, and time recovering in HDU. Without the team of specialist consultants, doctors, nurses and other support staff, she simply would not be here. Infection, allergies and misdiagnosed asthma, combined together, resulted in a trip to A&E, resuscitation department, HDU overnight, and then rushed to ICU in a coma. [/p][p]The NHS does get some stick at times; blame the government not the employees. They are simply professionals, and go above and beyond their call of duty. I’d like to make more people aware of how asthma can easily reduce a fit and healthy person to be very seriously ill. I’d also like to raise awareness of the fantastic work the employees of the NHS do. [/p][p]And if you’d like to donate to my fundraising page, you’d be helping Asthma UK, and James Cook ICU/HDU department. Please visit my page http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/RorySpence.[/p][p]Or if you’d like to sponsor myself running the Virgin London Marathon in April please add your name to the sponsor form. Any funds raised will be split 50/50 with James Cook Hospital ICU/HDU department and Asthma UK.[/p]
