Team story

[p]Click read more to see the video and see our story.[/p][vmgvideo class="ql-video" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/wDHAYALsosE?showinfo=0&rel=0&iv_load_policy=3"][/vmgvideo][p][br][/p][p]Our (Phil and Tina) daughter Rosalie was born 6 days late but happy and healthy in January 2016. She passed all the newborn checks with flying colours and before long we were back home to start the next chapter of our lives. We started to notice that Rosalie was developing more slowly than her peers at around 6 months but we hoped that she would catch up. At her 10 month health check she was referred to a Paediatrician and after 5 months on a waiting list the investigations and therapy started. At her first Paediatric appointment Rosalie was diagnosed with Global Developmental Delay but this was a description of her development and did not give us a reason for it. Genetic testing started in May 2017 and soon after Rosalie’s 2nd birthday, we got an answer. Our daughter has Rett Syndrome. A new journey has now started as we figure out what this means for Rosalie, for us as a family and how we can join the community raising awareness for Rett Syndrome. Rosalie is a joyful little girl who loves people and has an infectious giggle and we are very lucky to be her parents. [/p][p]We had decided to do the Surrey Half Marathon in Woking (March 11th) and Tough Mudder (September 22nd) with a group of friends before we were given the diagnosis. We, with the support of those running with us, want to use this opportunity to raise awareness and fundraise for two charities supporting those with Rett Syndrome and their families. To find out more about these charities and what Rett Syndrome is, see RettUK.org and ReverseRett.org.uk[/p][p][br][/p][p]Update 21/2/18: Thanks to all your generous donations we are resetting our target from £1000 to £1500! [/p][p][br][/p][p]Update 10/3/18: One day before our half marathon, we are having to update our target once more! Tough Mudder is in September, we’ll go big and aim for £3000![/p][p]Update 12/3/18: We finished the half marathon! The four of us who ran made it in good time though the next day has almost proved harder work than the marathon itself as our bodies deal with the shock! Now on to Tough Mudder![/p][p]Update 28/03/18: Phil is now booked in for the Milton Keynes Half Marathon. Joining his brother (on team) and Dad (raising money for Reverse Rett and MAF here: https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/MichaelDuncalfe)[/p][p]Update 17/4/18: The target may well have to be bumped again soon thanks to Dan Rodger joining the team to do a sponsored 12 hour walk on the 18th of May for ReverseRett and RettUK. [/p][p]Update 21/8/18: Target updated, the last hurrah of fundraising before Tough Mudder in September. [/p]
