My story

[p]Thank you for visiting my Virgin Money Giving page. [/p][p]Many of you will know that my wife Katie and I suffered the heartbreak of four miscarriages over the last 18 months, as we tried to start the family we had always dreamed of. [/p][p]Words of course cannot do that trauma justice, though my incredible partner bravely published her story last year in an effort to raise awareness of a subject that remains tragically stigmatised. You can read that via tinyurl.com/Ross-Katie[/p][p]Sharing those words made us both realise how many people suffer in silence, as we received numerous messages from people who could fully relate to our situation. [/p][p]The stigma is all the more frustrating when you read the statistics. One in four pregnancies end in miscarriage, with one in a hundred women suffering recurrent miscarriage (classified as three or more consecutive losses).[/p][p]So what can be done? [/p][p]Tommy's fund research into miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth, and provide pregnancy health information to parents. They want every parent to have the best possible pregnancy outcomes and take home happy healthy babies. [/p][p]Another factor that added to our desperation in 2019 was the unexplained nature of it all; with no cause found for almost half of recurrent miscarraiges. Tommy's were there for us at our lowest ebb and without their help and guidance, we may not have found potential answers or solutions. We may not have found a happy ending. But we did.[/p][p]In July 2020 we welcomed baby Callum into the world. He's our rainbow baby and we couldn't have got here without the information that Tommy's provide, as well as the incredible support of the community we were introduced to. However, not everybody gets their happy ending and we don't want to rest until that changes![/p][p]I initially hoped to run the London Marathon for Tommy's, but despite 10 months of training have seen the race cancelled twice due to COVID-19. So, in Baby Loss Awareness Week 2020 I will be running my own personal challenge![/p][p]From 9th-15th October I will run 100 miles, to signify the 1 in 100 women who suffer recurrent miscarriage (classified has 3 or more consecutive losses).[/p][p]I am fundraising to help prevent parents from going through baby loss, to provide information to empower couples through pregnancy and to support those who have suffered pregnancy complications or loss. [/p][p]Please donate to this fantastic cause who are doing ground breaking work in saving babies' lives! I hugely appreciate your support.[/p][p]All donations will be quickly processed and passed to Tommy's and gift aid claimed on Tommy's behalf where the donor is eligible.[/p]
