My story

[p]Thank you very much for looking at my fund-raising page. Running is something that I love doing and I feel very lucky to have a place in the London Marathon, which is a personal dream of mine. I’d like to use this opportunity as a chance to raise money and awareness for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY). For me, there was no question that this was the charity that I wanted to support. CRY’s Vision is to prevent young sudden cardiac deaths through awareness, screening and research, and also to support affected families. This charity does an amazing job for something that has sadly affected my own family and the community that I live in.[/p][p]In September 2015, my sister-in-law, Kate Bridges devastatingly lost her brother, Mike Clarke, to an un-diagnosed heart condition. Mike had just turned 29, when he sadly suffered a heart attack whilst playing his much loved sport of football. Mike had no prior warnings or symptoms to suggest there were any concerns. If Mike had been lucky enough to go for an ECG test he would still be with us today as his condition could have been treated with medication. Kate now fundraises in Mike’s memory to raise awareness and money to fund free heart screenings for anyone aged between 14-35 years old. Losing Mike has been extremely difficult for Kate and her family especially his then 4 year old little boy. It is this that has inspired me to support her work further by choosing this as my charity.[/p][p]For more details about the fundraising in Mike’s memory, please take a look at the fundraising page on Facebook Mike Clarke Memorial Fund for C.R.Y.[/p][p]Every week in the UK at least 12 fit and healthy young people die from an undiagnosed heart condition. CRY strives to prevent all young sudden cardiac deaths.[/p][p]Some of the amazing things the charity does include:[/p][p]Providing emotional and clinical support following a young sudden cardiac death;[/p][p]They offer screening to identify young people at risk;[/p][p]They also conduct research so that a better understanding of what is normal for young people can be established and those at risk can be identified more effectively;[/p][p]They also raise awareness to ensure as many people as possible can be identified as at risk.[/p][p]Although I’ve done a few half marathons, this will be my first marathon, which is 26.2 miles. The training will be tough, time consuming and a real challenge, but nothing like the challenges that the families affected by these conditions face. The charity, and those families, have already saved countless lives. I’d love to be able to help them to save more and keep the memory of those alive who we have lost. Please help me to achieve this by donating what you can. [/p][p]Thank you[/p][p][br][/p]
