Team story

[p]*WE DID IT!! Thanks so much for all of your support we've been completely blown away. The fundraising page will remain for a couple weeks for those who still wish to donate. Incredible place to run - can't wait for the next one!*[/p][p]*Targets £1500 AND £2500 AND £3500 were smashed!! Thank you so much for your support, we're both loving the training and are quite overcome by everyone's generosity! We won't be adding another fundraising target because this is so far past what we could ever have expected. Thanks again!*[/p][p][br][/p][p]In May 2021 my good friend Dom Kelly and I (Eric Mytton) will attempt to run along the West Highland Way trail in Scotland spanning 96 miles in just 4 days (just short of a marathon a day). We are hoping to raise as much money as possible for two charities very close to my heart; The Cure Parkinson's Trust and The MS Trust. We understand this is a very difficult time financially for most, but we hope that you can take 3 minutes to read about and share our challenge. Hopefully you can contribute to our cause, however great or small, the gesture will be appreciated by both of us more than you know. Below, I’ll add a bit more about the challenge itself and the wonderful causes we are supporting. Thanks very much.[/p][p]The Run[/p][p]It was during lockdown that both of us had gone for a run over 3 miles for the first time through sheer boredom. What followed was the classic cliche of catching ‘the bug’. Which leads us to this point, aiming to run this recognised hiking trail through the beautiful highlands of Scotland. Staying in hostels and inns along the way we hope to complete the trail in just 4 days, averaging 24 miles per day across a mixture of terrains. Having been close mates for half of our lives, growing up together, the thought of training and completing this as a pair is something we are perhaps naively excited about. Let the training commence. (We're both on Strava if you want some generous Kudos givers).[/p][p]https://www.westhighlandway.org/the-route/[/p][p]The Reason [/p][p]The two charities that we feel proud to be raising money for are two great charities that help improve the lives of those who suffer from two horrible conditions that are very relevant in my life. [/p][p]The MS Trust: Multiple Sclerosis is a condition that affects the central nervous system and its ability to carry messages through the body, causing a wide range of symptoms. It’s a condition that my mum, Julie, is currently living with. Seeing first hand her frustration is one of the reasons I want to try and make a difference. If you’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting my mum, the term “lights up any room” would come to mind I’m sure. Her incredible positivity and love for life is something everyone can inspire to have. I now see this as my opportunity to thank her in the most ridiculous way possible, something I can do with a best mate by my side. [/p][p]The Cure Parkinson’s Trust: Parkinsons is a neurological condition, decreasing levels of dopamine in the body. Unfortunately my dad was diagnosed with the condition last year and again, seeing the mental and physical challenges it provides first hand is so frustrating when all you want to do is help but you don’t know how. My dad is a big inspiration for this particular challenge due to his ridiculous running history, something I can only dream of even partially fulfilling, with some records that still hurt my head today (5k: 14.58 minutes, 10km: 30.40 minutes, 10 miles: 50.13 minutes, Marathon: 2 hours 32 mins). An absolute machine and never far from the fun, my dad is a complete idol for myself, my brother, and my sister in all aspects of life and for my many others I’m sure. I hope that the money raised can help to develop advancing treatment for Parkinson’s and continue to offer support to those in need. This one's for you Dave x [/p]
