Team story

[p]We are excited to announce that on Sunday October 3rd 2021, five Castle Newnham School parents / teachers will be running the Virtual London Marathon around Bedford town! They are running to support our new fundraising initiative, “A love of reading” which aims to embed a culture of reading for fun across school community.[/p][p]The Marathon team is made up of:[/p][p]Annamaria Drewett [/p][p]Bronwen Collacott[/p][p]Jason Jordan[/p][p]Matt Pyecroft[/p][p]Nick Habershon[/p][p]Watch this video to find out more! 👀⬇[/p][vmgvideo class="ql-video" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/r5iPad8gbo0?showinfo=0&rel=0&iv_load_policy=3"][/vmgvideo][p]Spoiler alert - you might find you have something in your eye by the end![/p][p]Special thanks to Martha Habershon for this fantastic video.[/p][p]And here's a bit more about our runners!….[/p][p]Annamaria Drewett[/p][p]“During lockdown I piled on the pounds and so when I saw that there was a place for the London Marathon with Castle Newnham PTA, I thought why not do this to not only help me get fit and lose the pounds but also as an achievement for my big milestone “50”! [/p][p]I’m also hoping we can hit the record of raising the largest fund for the school to date. Please help by donating and bring on the London Virgin landscape!”[/p][p]Bronwen Collacott[/p][p]"I am not a stranger to a marathon challenge but this one is a little different for me. A marathon is hard...really hard, even if you have built up your training over the usual 4 months. After a marathon in May, I had running slump and just pootled about through June and July. In August I ran every day...although not far. At the start of September I manage a couple of 10 mile runs- very slow. I then just 3 weeks before this event, the PTA asked me to run. How could I say no? I love my school: the kids, the staff and the whole community. I will do what I can to support it. Since the invitation to join, I have completed a 15 mile run and an 18 mile run and am kind of looking forward to going the full distance!"[/p][p]Jason Jordan[/p][p]"When Bronwen asked me to join the Virtual London Marathon team for Castle Newnham, I had been planning on watching this year’s London Marathon on the TV, feet up with a coffee… but hey, it’s for an excellent cause so here I am! We are very fond of Castle Newnham in our family. Two of our children are former pupils and one is there at the moment. I started running only about five years ago and have become hooked, doing mainly Parkruns every Saturday and longer runs on Sundays. This will be my 10th marathon so it is a special one for me and I am looking forward to the challenge."[/p][p]Matt Pyecroft[/p][p]“Why am I doing the marathon? Because Nick talked me into it! More seriously, it won’t be my first marathon but it will be my first for a while, and the first which the kids will be aware of. I am a regular runner so it will be good to have something to focus on, and I am really pleased that any funds we raise will be helping to developing a love of reading, as that is something which we all love and as a family are all big readers. Now I just need to lay off the cakes and get the training in!”[/p][p]Nick Habershon:[/p][p]“I watched my wife Martha fundraise, train for and run the London Marathon in 2008 for Sense and then for Castle Newnham PTA in 2019, with a lot of admiration. I’ve never been sure if I could run a marathon; a lot of years of hesitation, coming up with excuses, occasionally entering the ballot, being more relieved than disappointed at not getting a place. Time to step up![/p][p]I’m grateful to the PTA for the opportunity to run my first marathon in support of Castle Newnham and to build on the running that became so habitual during lockdown. More than that however, I hope the funds we raise help raise help repay, at least a little, the brilliant care and support the school have shown our Castle Newnham community in hugely challenging circumstances over the past year.”[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p]
