My story

[p]Hi folks, [/p][p]Many people might think it is bonkers to run across one desert in one year, but you know me, I am more than bonkers and thought that running across just the Sahara Desert in April wasn't enough.  So on October 1st I will be setting off on a 7 day footrace of 155miles across the Atacama Desert in Chile, starting at an altitude of 3,300ft.  This race is the Atacama Crossing, part of the 4Deserts series of desert races.[/p][p]Once again, I will have to carry all my kit and food on my back as I shuffle my way through one of the most beautiful of environments, testing my physical and mental endurance.  The field of runners is much smaller than that of the Marathon des Sables in Morocco, and totals about 170.  So there will be periods where I will be running alone with nothing by my own crazy mind to keep me motivated and putting one foot in front of the other.  [/p][p]I originally intended to run this race in 2015, but very sadly in the months leading up to the race my darling Daddy was diagnosed with end stage cancer and so I withdrew from the 2015 edition of the race.  The race organisers generously allowed me to transfer my race to 2017, and so I embark on this adventure and will be running very much in memory of my Daddy, hoping that he will be with me every step of the way.[/p][p]Whilst I will be running in memory of my Daddy, I am continuing to raise money   for a cause and organisiation that is close to my heart.  Medecins Sans Frontieres - Doctors Without Borders.  The people who run this organisation and the doctors and nurses who work for it are some of the most admirable people in the world and serve to remind each and everyone of us that in the turmoil of the world today it is vital to remember that everyone is our neighbour.  We are so privileged in this country even with the NHS seemingly at breakpoint - the point is we still have it, we still have advanced and amazing medical treatment available to us on a daily basis...peoples around the world in refugee camps, war torn cities, developing countries fighting vicious viral diseases sometimes have nothing at all unless they have the help of the doctors and nurses who disregard borders.  Without our help and donations they simply could not do the work that they do.  For more information on MSF and the incredible work they do please visit their website www.msf.org [/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to MSF.   Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p]
