My story

[p]My story[/p][p]Thank you for visiting my page. Mid-life crisis time (who am I kidding, I’m well past Mid-Life, after all I now have a bus pass!) I'm taking on the gruelling, but stunning trek to Everest Base Camp! As it's been on the old 'bucket list' since being a teenager and now at the young age of 61, I have been selected to join an expedition to Everest Base Camp, I think they needed a token pensioner for political correctness, by the time we fly out to Kathmandu I’ll be 62 years of age, what better time to fulfil my dream. [/p][p]The 80 mile trek over 14 days, will follow the route of the famous British expedition in 1953, heading north up the Khumba Valley to the south side of Everest, reaching base camp at over 17,500 ft.....a wee bit higher than my home town of Dunfermline at 167 ft![/p][p]The main aim of this challenge, is of course to raise much needed funds for 'Supporting Nepal's Children', a fantastic charity whose goal is to re-equip, build, and re-build schools in remote areas of Nepali communities who live in the shadow of Everest, whose children attend schools many many miles away from home and their families, with limited resources. Some children walk for 2 hours each morning and evening just to attend class.[/p][p]As an added incredible bonus, all the money I raise here for Supporting Nepal's Children, will then be matched by St. James's Place to support worthwhile children's causes in the UK and abroad, through our own Charitable Foundation. So, for every £1 that you kindly donate, £2 will go to these amazing causes, and even more if you are able to tick the 'Gift Aid' boxes.[/p][p]The full cost of my trek and travel will be fully paid for by myself, therefore all donations will go directly to improving the lives of many less fortunate children.[/p][p]A heartfelt thanks for all your kind support.[/p][p]Russell (....in training!)[/p]
