My story

[p]A huge thank you to all those who have already donated. Due to current circumstances, the Isle of Wight challenge has been postponed for a second time. I have decided to continue with the walk as planned on 1st/2nd May 2021.[/p][p]The complete distance is 106 km (66 miles). I will do a minimum of half the route 52km (33 miles).[/p][p]Recently we heard that the planned event was going to be cancelled or postponed again, so following the announcement about the easing of lockdown restrictions I have taken the decision to continue with the planned dates in May; I really feel encouraged because finally there is certainty that I am actually going![/p][p]Now that I face doing the walk alone rather than as part of a large group I contacted the IofW long distance walkers who were super supportive and have identified someone who can accompany me at various stages around the route. [/p][p]Recently my training has been slightly curtailed, not least because of the pandemic but also due to a recent fall, bad weather and dark days. Thankfully my knee is slowly healing and I have been able to get out for some more practice walks. The top left image is St.Martha's Church on the North Downs (in the snow!) and the top-centre image is the Blackheath War Memorial, looking towards the North Downs. The other photos are from a rekky trip to the Isle of Wight in September last year, along with previous training walks closer to home.[/p][p]I am aiming to raise £2,500 for the charity Starfish Asia which provides education for those who cannot afford it in Pakistan. In particular, the money will go to their scholarship fund to give young people a chance of higher education which would otherwise be an impossible dream. I have chosen this charity because their philosophy is that although you can’t help everyone you can make a difference to a few people. At the moment the scholarship fund is supporting about 150 students to pursue a variety of courses including midwifery, teaching and engineering.[/p][p]All money donated will go directly to the charity; I have covered my own expenses. Please give as you feel able - no amount too small. [/p]
