My story

[p]On 3rd July 2021, together with some friends, I will be taking part in the ‘Duchenne Dash Around the World’ event at Goodwood Motor Circuit; forming part of 300 cyclists aiming to collectively cycle the circumference of the globe (40,000km!) in just 12 hours! [/p][p]The goal is to raise awareness and donations to support Duchenne UK in their aim to end the devastating muscle-wasting disease Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). Their mission is to bring together the best researchers in the industry, with NHS, drug companies and families, to change the lives of people, like my wonder son Henry, with this condition. [/p][p]In 2017, our world fell apart. We were told our wonderful little boy Henry (aged 3) had been diagnosed with DMD.[/p][p]DMD is a devastating life-limiting muscle wasting condition that mainly affects boys. At present there is no cure for DMD and the average life expectancy is mid-twenties, with most boys losing the ability to walk around the age of 10.[/p][p]Henry, now 7, is a happy boy and doing well. He loves his family, especially his younger Sister and baby Brother. When the time is right, we will need to be brave and tell him a little bit more about his condition as he gets older. For the moment, he knows he takes medicine for his muscles, vitamin D and wears night splints when he sleeps. He has regular physiotherapy sessions and hospital appointments, which he never complains about.[/p][p]Henry is still active and we always encourage him to try new things. He enjoys walking and playing outside, loves music and dancing, drawing, lego, playing his Nintendo Switch, and is a big Super Mario fan! We aim to keep his life as normal as possible whilst creating happy memories and experiences that we will all look back on and treasure.[/p][p]This year the annual Duchenne Dash cycling event (normally London to Paris in 24 hours) will be held at Goodwood Motor Circuit and named the ‘Duchenne Dash Around the World’; where I (together with friends) will be joining 300 cyclists in the challenge of collectively cycling the circumference of the globe (40,000km!) in just 12 hours! [/p][p]In these unprecedented times, Duchenne UK are struggling to hold events to raise the funds desperately needed to invest in research for treatments and a cure for DMD. If you are able to sponsor, no matter how little, we would be so very, very grateful. [/p][p]Please help us save our Henry, and join the fight to END DUCHENNE.[/p][p]Thank you for all your support, and any donations, no matter how small.[/p][p]Lots of Love, The Saul Family xxx[/p]
