My story

[p]I’m a first time marathon runner and training to run the Virgin London Marathon which was due to take place on Sunday 26th April 2020. However, due to the Coronavirus this has now been postponed until Sunday 4th October and is now a 'Virtual London Marathon'. My training has continued throughout the summer months and I'll be truthful in saying that I have struggled with the heat and the motivation. However, I am committed to running the marathon albeit not what I had hoped for and will be using the measured distance Thanet Coastal Marathon route. I have been lucky enough to gain a place through the ballot system which will rollover to April 2022 when the London Marathon will take place as it normally would. I would like to raise money for my chosen local charity, ‘Catching Lives’, who help the homeless and those less fortunate than ourselves in Canterbury and East Kent.[/p][p]My nephew, Luke Mumford, was a student at Canterbury University and would regularly help the homeless. He would always endeavour to make their difficult lives a little more comfortable. His motto was, “ Set out to do something for someone each day, even if it is as small as buying someone some food or drink. It all counts”.[/p][p]Luke tragically lost his life in a car accident aged just 20 in 2016. He is my inspiration and reason for choosing “Catching Lives” as such a worthwhile cause.[/p][p]Thank you for your support.[/p]
