My story

[p]Hi I’m Sam Gamble, and welcome to my Virgin Money giving page. I would like to give you a brief background as to why am I running the London Marathon 2018 for Teenage Cancer Trust, a journey that has been really tough at times but couldn’t have worked out better for myself.[/p][p]When I was 16 I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma, an uncommon cancer that develops in the lymphatic system. I had treatment and was clear for almost a year until it sadly returned. The treatment the second time was much more aggressive and included a stem cell transplant. It was a tough time for both me and my family, but I received tremendous support all round to help me get through the aggressive treatment.[/p][p]I was treated at Leicester Royal Infirmary, which at the time didn’t have a Teenage Cancer Trust Unit. This meant I had the choice due to my age of being treated on the children’s ward or the adults ward. I decided on the children’s ward and was really well looked after, however It was tough as I was surrounded by poorly children and babies, which was really hard for me to see. However since my stay, the Leicester Royal Infirmary has been fitted with an amazing Teenage Cancer Trust Unit which looks after people aged between 13 and 24 being treated for cancer. It is because of the funding needed for these units, along with other valuable projects that I have decided to run the London Marathon 2018.[/p][p]Finally to the positive ending for myself. This year I will be celebrating 10 years of being cancer free, and a lot has happened in this time. Despite being told that my chances of being able to have a family naturally were slim following my treatment, last year my fiancée Claire and I became proud parents to gorgeous baby Oliver, who has just turned 1. Also, 5 weeks after the marathon Claire and I will be getting married, which means I will have the family I have always dreamed of having.[/p][p] Thank you for taking time to read my story, I hope you enjoyed it. I can’t wait to run the London Marathon for TCT next year, and if you can afford to sponsor me I, along with the whole team running for TCT would hugely appreciate it.[/p][p] Thanks again, Sam[/p]
