My story

[p]Hi, The Techman Festival is back for a second year and will be hosted by Mount St. Mary's College on Wednesday 26th September 2018. We will continue to raise funds for READY a charity which supports disabled people play sport because everybody should be able to access it, but I know some young people with disabilities find it hard. [/p][p]What is the Techman Festival all about? [/p][p]Our son Sam was helping with a climbing club for younger children and realised some people found sport hard and he quickly realised it wasn’t always their fault. He looked online and discovered a charity called REAdY, who support young people with disabilities to access sport. The core idea of the Techman Rugby Festival was to help raise money for REAdY who could in turn help people with disabilities gain access to sport in their local area.[/p][p]Is it really just a Rugby Competition?[/p][p]Yes and No. Yes part of the festival is a Rugby competition but the festival is not just about playing rugby. [/p][p]Everyone involved will have the chance to work with nine-times swimming Paralympian Martin Mansell in a series of tasks designed to help children truly understand what it means to have a disability. [/p][p]Reigning 100m Paralympic gold medallist Toby Gold will also be joining us to talk to the whole school about his career and experiences. [/p][p]The boys rugby competition will include teams from Barlborough, Mylnhurst, Nottingham High, Westbourne, Birkdale and St. Peter & St. Paul. Whilst some children are involved in matches, home and away, there will be activities for the rest of Elements and Upper Elements to take part in. Boys and Girls. [/p][p]The 1st XV will also be playing against Trent College in the first round of the NatWest Cup. (National U18 Cup for schools)[/p][p]We want everyone to be involved - fundraising[/p][p]Because the festival is also about helping everyone understand the physical and social challenges some young people with disabilities face when they want to do sport, we want the whole school to be involved. Sam has designed and worked with a manufacturer to produce a badge suitable for adults and children that promotes all sport. All the money from the badges goes directly to the charity. So it’s time to buy one. They’re available from reception at both schools, the pavilion or your child can call into see Upper Elements homeroom team. You might even be able to help us sell them. We’d love to here from you if you can,[/p][p]The social side.[/p][p]The pavilion at MSM will be open on the afternoon of Wednesday 26th September serving refreshments making it the ideal opportunity to come along, find out more about the charity, donate, support the children or simply to take the opportunity to catch up with friends. MPA will also be selling ice-creams at the pavilion so call down to buy one before the end of summer.[/p][p]If you can’t make it on the day, don’t worry—you can still sponsor the children by making a donation via [/p][p]Thank you - please come along on the day and join in the fun. [/p]
