My story

[p]In honour of a new year and in the spirit of taking on a fresh challenge, I will be (hopefully) running, (maybe) jogging, (possibly even) crawling The Brighton Marathon on the 14th April. I am fundraising for Compassion in World Farming, a peaceful animal welfare charity, whose aim is to end all factory and intensive farming, which is not only one of the biggest forms of animal cruelty on the planet, but also one of the biggest causes of environmental damage and climate change. [/p][p]The charity was founded in 1967 by a farming couple from Hampshire, who became increasing concerned by the intensification of farming methods, in particular the treatment of farm animals. [/p][p]Since its origins in the 60's, CIWF has grown into a powerful global movement, which has achieved many things, including:[/p][p]Securing landmark agreements to outlaw the barren battery cage for egg-laying hens; narrow veal crates for calves; sow stalls for female pigs[/p][p]Political lobbying and campaigning resulting in the EU recognising animals as sentient beings, capable of feeling pain and suffering[/p][p]Many food companies - retailers, producers, and manufacturers heading toward a more ethical and sustainable supply due to working with Compassion's Food Business team [/p][p]But there is still much to be done... [/p][p]I decided to fundraise for Compassion because I am incredibly passionate about animal rights and welfare; I believe that all creatures deserve to be treated with kindness and respect, and if humans want to farm animals for food or otherwise, then it should be done so in the best possible way.[/p][p]By sponsoring me, you will be part of the movement to a kinder world, and you will be helping to improve the lives of farm animals all over the globe. Your donation will enable Compassion to continue the fight to:[/p][p]Ban the live transport of farm animals in the UK and abroad[/p][p]Completely end the use of cages in farming[/p][p]Demand honest labelling of food products, which includes method of production[/p][p]Demand better welfare for the farming, treatment, and slaughter of fish[/p][p]Thank you so, so much for your support! It will see me through all of the training and the marathon race! :)[/p]
