My story

[p]UPDATE: I should have been collecting my race numbers from the London Expo. Unfortunately the London ExCel centre is preparing for the second wave of the global pandemic. After months of training the Covid nightmare put my ambition of running the packed streets of London on hold. There were then months of uncertainty whether the race would take place or not, VLM is now virtual. I have 24 hours to run 26.2 miles on Sunday 4th October. Without the crowds and support stations it's going to be even tougher. The last 6 months have been filled with stress, consequently I have felt extremely anxious. My training has taken a hit - in fact I haven't had the motivation to run at all. But I am determined. As I am so under trained and the experience will not be the same as being in London (hopefully that time will come soon) this will be a run/walk with no time pressure. I am determined to complete this to support my chosen charity SNAPS. This small charity has continued to support the families throughout lockdown and shielding, from virtual events to sending out craft packs. Fundraising has been hard and all their regular events cancelled due to covid restrictions. If you can donate any amount we would be very grateful.. help me through those miles. You will have the opportunity to track me when the app is up and running. I will share the details when I have them. Please support me in any way you can. Now to plan a route...πŸƒπŸ»?♀?πŸƒπŸ»?♀?[/p][p]UPDATE: Since the marathon was postponed due to Covid 19 I significantly reduced my training. As part of the 2.6 challenge I have completed 26.2 miles over 3 days finishing on what would have been marathon day. It is now planned that the marathon will go ahead in October - I am sceptical about this. Either way - whenever it will be, I am determined to complete the London Marathon. [/p][p]I started running 2 years ago, 2-3 times a week. I completed my first 10k race in July 2018. I loved the race atmosphere. I gradually increased my distance and completed the Leeds half marathon in May 2019, which spurred me on further. My next challenge... A MARATHON! I shall be running the London Marathon in April 2020. That's a whole 26.2 miles (or 42.2KM - all of which I'll be wondering if I'll make it to the portaloo or end up like Paula Radcliffe πŸ’©, how many blisters I will have or toenails I will lose 😱and what about the chafing - nipples, thighs 😜 the supplies of vaseline I will need). [/p][p]I am privileged to be running this marathon in aid of SNAPS Yorkshire (Special Needs And Parent Support). SNAPS is a Leeds based charity that offers accessible, affordable & regular physiotherapy and a supportive environment to children with special needs, of all kinds, and their familes. As a nurse working in Children's Intensive Care I regularly meet children with special needs and their familes. This has given me an understanding of the huge challenges they can face in every day life.[/p][p]The aim of SNAPS is to support the entire family (including siblings and other carers) by enabling them to participate in a shared experience of physical activity, fun and conversation in a relaxed atmosphere. They provide hydrotherapy & swimming lessons, rebound therapy and socialising & play sessions. All delivered by professional and dedicated staff. As you can imagine these services are vital in the lives of those they support however they rely soley on funding raised by people like me #SNAPSsuperheroes.[/p][p]This is going to be my biggest ever challenge. I am very excited but also extremely scared! Both SNAPS and I need your support and it's great to have you alongside me as I hopefully smash the next part of my running journey.[/p][p]Let the training begin. Again!! πŸ˜‚[/p]
