My story

[p]This time 5 years ago I had red hair, I was a newly qualified nurse and I had just finished my first medical camp with Patchworking Against poverty…five years on with brown hair but a lot more experience I am getting fundraising underway for my next medical camp in March 2019. I will be volunteering once again with this amazing and inspiring charity, and although all volunteers self-fund their trip we do need to raise money for things such as; medical supplies, paying Kenyan Doctors, pharmacists, dentists and translators. During the medical camp in a region called Kisii in rural Kenya we expect to see and treat around 4,000 patients at 6 locations in 6 days. Most of the population are desperately poor working for minimal wages on the vast tea plantations with little to no access to medical care, so the need is huge. Services we will provide include primary medical care, dentistry, opticians, sexual health and screening for malaria and HIV. The medical camp itself costs around £8,000 to run, as an individual I just need to raise just £200. So to celebrate my 27th birthday this year I am asking all my family and friends who would normally buy me a gift/card/drink to kindly spend your hard earned money on donating to this incredible charity instead. Thank you so much for your support![/p][p]Below are a few links to the charity’s website and to other projects alongside the medical camp that they run. For instance you can donate £25 to pay for a cataract operation for any patient that we refer from the medical camp. £25 could be the difference in giving somebody the gift of sight. Please check out the website and see if there are any other ways you can and would like to support Patchworking Against Poverty.
