My story

[p]2019 sees me taking on the "toughest trek in the world" in the "happiest country in the world" (Bhutan's Snowman Trek)! My first trip to Nepal (2008) made me fall in love with the Himalayas and the people that live there. My Camino de Santiago (2013) made me fall in love with walking. It's time to combine my loves in my craziest challenge to date! [/p][p]I'm embarking on 28 days of camping, no shower, no toilet, no mobile reception. I'll be crossing 11 mountain passes above 4500m (5 of them above 5000m) and experiencing the joys of the Chomolhari Festival. There's only a 6 week window each year to attempt the Snowman Trek and even then, morning temperatures in the tent are expected to be between 0 and -7 degrees (assuming the weather gods are kind to us). [/p][p]Less than 50% of people achieve the Snowman Trek and more people have summitted Everest than completed this challenge. We're aiming for roughly 500km and 18000m ascent. I've always wanted to visit Bhutan and firmly believe, if you're going to do something, give it everything you've got![/p][p]Having worked in mental health research for the great majority of my career, I'm grateful that I have the opportunity to push my comfort zone to it's limits because I choose to... for many, getting through a single day is far tougher than the Snowman Trek! I'm doing this for them.[/p][p]While I commit to training, I ask you to commit to donating a little spare cash to SANE, the UK's leading mental health charity. There's no doubt I'll experience every facet of emotion during my adventure. Those that SANE support, do that on a daily basis and need our help. I take on the "toughest trek in the happiest country" in the hope that you'll help those that are struggling every day, find their "happy!" It's an emotion we all deserve to feel![/p]
