My story

[p]Hi All,[/p][p]These two charities are very close to my heart and are very worthy causes.[/p][p]I have diabetes and was diagnosed over 5 years ago, for so long I was in denial that I had it and did nothing to alleviate the symptoms. It's only in the last 12-18 months that I have faced up to the fact that I need to take action, I had some amazing support from the Diabetic Clinic in Salford and without them I would not have started my journey to gain control of my blood sugars and start to lose weight, I have started new medication that Diabetes UK have contributed to and in the last 2 months while taking it I have lost 2 stone in weight and my blood sugars have dropped to almost normal levels. My journey is just starting and I will need support with this my whole life, which I can get through Diabetes UK., they help millions of people every year by research, helpful coping tips on their website and recipes to help reduce sugar intake, all of which needs our support.[/p][p]The Alzheimer's Society is an amazing charity. I have had first hand experience of this disease and the effects it has on the whole family. Three of my Aunties suffered from this and while my sister was the main carer, I supported her as and when I could. Watching someone lose themselves is absolutely heart breaking, strong people who have been feisty, strong and independent slowly lose their ability to function for themselves and the frustration they feel because of it, then one day they turn round and they don't know who you are.......that moment is devastating. Alzheimer's Society work tirelessly to make peoples life easier and support families who have a member suffering from this horrendous disease.[/p][p]I hope that you are able to donate as every single penny raised will be split between both charities. Lee & Michael have both experienced these illnesses in one way or another and fully support these charities, [/p][p]I'm hoping they will be holding me up when I try and chicken out of doing the Zip Line!! We will be wearing head cams so will post our video's as soon as we have completed it.[/p][p]Thank you all for contributing to these extremely worthwhile causes.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Sarah[/p][p][br][/p][p]From Lee Bronze.[/p][p] Diabetes is a disease that is very close to my heart. My father has it, my aunt has it and my grandparents both had to self-inject with insulin for all of the years I can remember them until they both died in their early 60s. It’s easily capable of being a crippling disease which can leave people blind, increase the risk of stroke and leave its victims needing amputations. It is a condition though that can be successfully managed with help and education to help sufferers enjoy healthy rich pleasurable lifestyles.[/p][p] Alzheimer’s is a spiteful, vicious and merciless disease which steals loved ones in front of your very eyes. It not only affects the sufferer but inflicts misery on the people around them as they have to see that individual slowly degenerate. However, the Alzheimer's Society does incredible work helping people develop coping mechanisms and working hard to find a cure.[/p][p] If you could spare the cost of a cup of coffee for these great causes to encourage me to fling myself off a quarry cliff edge on a rope somewhere in Wales I would be so grateful. Every penny you are able to spare will go straight to the charities themselves as we are all paying for the zip wiring ourselves. I just hope I look better than Boris Johnson in lucky Union Jack boxer shorts when I inevitably get stuck and am left dangling helplessly awaiting rescue….. [/p][p] [/p]
