Team story

[p]In May 2019, we are attempting a sea kayak challenge to raise money for ‘mind for better mental health’ and 'national autistic society' charities. The challenge is to paddle the length of the Southern Cornish coastline. We will set off from Plymouth and finish in Penzance, covering in excess of 100 miles. The challenge is anticipated to take six days and we aim to be as self sufficient as possible, wild camping along the way.[/p][p]Mental Health doesn’t only affect the individual with the illness it impacts the lives of everyone around them. I know this first hand as in 2008 my older brother went missing after suffering mental health related issues. He has never been found and joins the 180,000 people in the UK who are reported missing each year. Supporting people with mental health issues early helps to treat the illness and prevent a spiral effect of depression and disconnect from society. It's charities like ‘mind for better health’ that help to support and prevent people effected by mental health. [/p][p]The National Autistic Society is an organisation that assists autistic children and adults in all aspects of life, from education and life skills to the transition into adulthood and continued support thereafter. For the last twelve years I have been involved in the care of a boy with autism, from birth to age twelve I have seen how challenging life can be for him. How many people misunderstood or pass judgement just because he doesn’t fit into the box that society calls “normal”. There have been some amazing people helping him along the way. The care and education he gets at secondary school is second to none and none of that would be possible without the NSA. So I intend to raise as much as I can to help the other 700,000 autistic people living in the UK.[/p][p]Those who have supported us before will know these charities are close to our hearts and we hope you will donate what you can to help us reach our target of raising £1000.[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p]
