[lt]div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow: hidden;"[gt]Hi Everyone[lt]/div[gt] [lt]div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow: hidden;"[gt]So, our 16th consecutive Great North Run is fast approaching on Sunday 11th September and this year we’re raising money for Meningitis Now in memory of a friend’s young grandson, Harry John Done, who tragically lost his fight to the disease in February 2015.[lt]/div[gt] [lt]div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow: hidden;"[gt]Some people have a misconception that babies are vaccinated against all types of Meningitis, but this is sadly not the case in the UK. So many strains are still not covered. A Men B vaccine was finally made available through the NHS in September 2015 for babies up to the age of 1, but has not been extended to children between 13 and 24 months.[lt]/div[gt] [lt]div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow: hidden;"[gt]Meningitis is still a widely misunderstood disease. ‘It is the inflammation of the membranes that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord and can be caused by different organisms, including bacteria and viruses’.* It can be fatal or leave survivors with lifelong disabilities and it can affect anyone, at any age. We personally know of two people who became seriously ill in adulthood, and Public Health is currently urging students to get the free Men ACWY vaccine before attending college or university. [lt]/div[gt] [lt]div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow: hidden;"[gt]Meningitis Now were the first meningitis patient group in the world, founders of the meningitis movement and the only charity dedicated to fighting meningitis in the UK.* Their mission is to be there for everyone affected by meningitis, spread lifesaving awareness about the disease, fund research into it and campaign for the introduction of licensed vaccines. They need over £3 million every year and without any central government funding, they rely on people like us to help.[lt]/div[gt] [lt]div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow: hidden;"[gt]So let’s continue the fight and help to make a difference to more families affected by this devastating disease.[lt]/div[gt] [lt]div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow: hidden;"[gt]Virgin Money Giving is 100% not for profit. Your donations will be quickly processed and passed to Meningitis Now and any gift aid will be claimed on the charity's behalf where eligible (if you’re a tax payer that means another 25% goes to the Charity).[lt]/div[gt] [lt]div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow: hidden;"[gt]Thank you for your continued generosity no matter how big or small.[lt]/div[gt] [lt]div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow: hidden;"[gt]Sean & Louise xxx[lt]/div[gt] [lt]div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow: hidden;"[gt]* Meningitis Now website[lt]/div[gt] [p][span=text-decoration: underline;]UPDATE:[/span][/p][p]Despite the very sunny weather on Sunday, we both completed the Great North Run with just a few aching muscles and some minor sun burn! Sean will no doubt use the heat as part of his excuse of being 4 minutes slower than his previous best from last year, while Louise was happy to be a minute faster than last year and much better than she has done in her training efforts![/p][p]But what really matters is that with the kind generosity of all our supporters we will easily surpass our target amount once all the money is accounted for and are happy to have done this for Meningitis Now in memory of Harry.[/p][p]As always it was a great weekend and still an incredible sight to see 50 odd thousands individuals put themselves through the challenge and to stream over the finish line and see the looks of joy and relief on their faces knowing they've done it....whether they walked most of it or were on the heels of Mo all the way! Congratulations to them all. A huge thank you to everyone who sponsored them as well as us and have made a difference to lots of good causes and lives in the process. [/p][p]Roll on next year :-)[/p][p]Thank you all so much for your continued support.[/p][p]Sean & Louise xxx[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Hi Everyone[/p][p]So, our 16[sup]th[/sup] consecutive Great North Run is fast approaching on Sunday 11[sup]th[/sup] September and this year we’re raising money for Meningitis Now in memory of a friend’s young grandson, Harry John Done, who tragically lost his fight to the disease in February 2015.[/p][p]Some people have a misconception that babies are vaccinated against all types of Meningitis, but this is sadly not the case in the UK.
