My story

[p]As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic our young people are requiring more mental health support than ever before! [/p][p]Sienna and I started running outdoors together during the last lockdown for our mental and physical health. [/p][p]She’s now convinced me to run a local hilly half marathon on 6th June (yikes that’s soon!) and we’re making our efforts worthwhile by committing to raise vital funds for Youth Talk - supporting the St Albans District for over 23 years. [/p][p]Youth Talk provides a free confidential counselling service to 13-25 year olds in the St Albans District. [/p][p]Demand for their service is set to rise. Youth Talk are currently providing over 80 sessions a week (up from 60 before the pandemic). [/p][p]Over the coming months they envisage this raising to 100 sessions a week, the first time in their 23 year history.[/p][p]75% of young people who are experiencing mental health problems aren't receiving treatment. [/p][p]Youth Talk are more determined than ever that local young people have a safe place to talk in confidence, whatever’s on their mind. [/p][p]Your kindness and generous donations will help make a big difference to the number of our young people youth talk can support. [/p][p]Every pound makes a difference. Every counselling session takes a young person closer to coming out of a dark time, to look ahead with hope.[/p][p]£50 will help provide a 50min counselling session to a young person in need.[/p][p]£600 could help provide 12 counselling sessions to a young person (which is the average number of sessions a young person receives)[/p][p]Thank you in advance for helping us make a difference! Sharon and Sienna xxx[/p][p]P.S. If you are still reading here are some testimonials from young people who have accessed the services of Youth Talk. [/p][p]“without Youth Talk, things would have continued to spiral and I would have had no motivation to do any work for school or potentially even go to school”[/p][p]...” I was on a downward spiral without anyone I felt I could talk to and it was starting to impact my school and home life - being able to talk to someone openly has prevented continual use of unhealthy coping mechanisms and I probably would have found it even harder to ‘get out of’ the state I was in.”[/p][p]Please click our link and help us raise vital funds for Youth Talk today.[/p][p]We’ll post pics of our medals as evidence of completion!
