My story

[p]My love for running began on a cold winter's day over six years ago when I decided to change my lifestyle to become a fitter, healthier father to our new daughter. What began with a gentle jog round our local park, soon became two laps, and before I knew it, the obsession had began and after joining our local running club, I was soon clocking up the speed and the miles. Initially I challenged myself with 5 and 10K races, and then progressed to half marathons. However, last October I was offered a place to participate in the Chester marathon with only three days notice. As running a marathon had always been on my bucket list, I said yes straight away without really thinking it through. Having never run further than 13 miles and with no marathon training, I went into the race with limited expectations apart from the experience. 4 hours and 3 minutes later I had completed my very first marathon! Despite being in agony for a few days and vowing never again, the temptation to do another one was creeping in. And so to why I am here today.....[/p][p]I have been extremely fortunate to be offered a place to run this year's Virgin London Marathon for a very worthwhile charity called Sporting Equals. The charity promotes a greater involvement in sport and physical activity by disadvantaged communities particularly the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) population. They are able to boast close links with NHS agencies to address health inequalities, as well as working with local government bodies, the Department of Culture Media and Sport, and Sport England. With this support, Sporting Equals has been able to reach out to those disadvantaged to make a sustainable difference to the inclusion of all under-represented communities in sport and physical activity.[/p][p]I feel very honoured to support a charity which is actively working to promote healthier lifestyles to all, which in turn leads to healthier, long-term opportunities.[/p][p]I very much appreciate all the support received and know the charity will benefit greatly from all your kind donations. In the meantime, I'm off for a 26 mile run......![/p]
