My story

[p]For those of you who have been generous in the past you may know that this is my 28th Marathon and my 26th consecutive London Marathon.[/p][p]This year the London Marathon is back in London Town, following last year’s unique virtual event.[/p][p]I am running on behalf of the NSPCC, a charity very close to my heart, as they are the leading children's charity fighting to end child abuse in the UK and Channel Islands. On Sunday 3 October I shall be donning my surgeon’s scrubs again and running from the back as ‘The Mad Medic’ carrying my 2 charity flags.[/p][p]During lockdown record numbers contacted the NSPCC with concerns, mainly about parental behaviour, physical and emotional abuse, and neglect. In some cases, fears about the virus were exploited to withhold access to children, cut off contact to family and friends, and monitor movement under the pretext of keeping them safe from the virus.[/p][p]The NSPCC helps children who have been abused to rebuild their lives, supports children’s physical and mental recovery from abuse and trauma, protects those at risk, and finds the best ways of preventing abuse from ever happening again.[/p][p]By supporting the NSPCC, you are helping these children get the help they urgently need.[/p][p]Donating through Virgin Money Giving is simple, fast and totally secure. They will send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.[/p][p]Thanks for taking the time to visit my page.[/p]
