My story

[p]I'm honoured to be taking part in the Marathon des Sables (MdS) in 2020 with the 'Walking With The Wounded' team as they return to the infamous Marathon des Sables, to mark their 10th birthday. They are taking a 32-strong team to carry on their rich tradition of participation in the event.[/p][p]MdS is ranked by the Discovery Channel as the 'toughest footrace on earth'. Competitors have to take on five and a half marathons in five or six days across the Sahara desert. The rules require you to be self-sufficient, to carry with you on your back everything except water that you need to survive. You are given a place in a tent to sleep at night, but any other equipment and food must be carried.[/p][p]Having served in the Royal Air Force and still having many serving and ex-military friends this is a charity that is very close to my heart and does some amazing work to offer assistance through their programmes to those vulnerable veterans who have been physically, mentally or socially disadvantaged by their service and assist them in sustaining their independence through new sustainable careers outside of the military.[/p][p]I'm more than a little nervous but the training has started and centres around a series of events over the preceding 12 months to both help prepare and raise money for 'Walking with the Wounded'.[/p][p]Events[/p][p]Milton Keynes - 20 Miler (Completed)[/p][p]Stirling Marathon (Completed)[/p][p]Para 10, Loaded TAB - Colchester (Completed) https://paras10.com/ [/p][p]Cateran Yomp - Gold 54 Miles in 24 hours (Completed) https://soldierscharity.org/ [/p][p]Summer Fan Dance - Woodhouse Trident, Loaded TAB, Total of 45 miles (Completed) http://thefandancerace.com/ [/p][p]Climb Mount Elbrus, Russia - Highest Mountain in Europe at 5642m (Completed)[/p][p]Para 10, Loaded TAB - Catterick https://paras10.com/ (Completed - In 1:49, just inside Para Regiment selection time, getting faster :) ) [/p][p]COPS 30 Miler - Royal Marine Loaded Yomp,Test March https://cops30miler.org/ (Completed in 9:34, hung in with the first group back)[/p][p]Hubble Bubble Leeds Canal Halloween Marathon, Weighted. First 2 miles carrying 80lbs and the rest of it carrying 50lbs plus food and water. http://www.eliteoutdoorfitness.com/ (Completed)[/p][p]Winter Fan Dance - Double Tap, Loaded TAB http://thefandancerace.com/ [/p][p]Also, if there is anyone with business contacts who would be interested in taking advantage of media coverage by sponsoring me and getting logo space on my running shirt I would love to hear from you at simon_harris@btopenworld.com.
