My story

[p]I will be turning 12 this year and celebrating my Bat Mitzvah in September. Becoming a fully-fledged Jewish adult means giving and doing for others less fortunate - so I wanted to raise money for the benefit of others to mark this special occasion in my life. Knowing how fortunate I am to have my health and a loving family, I am raising money for two charities, Camp Simcha and Rainbow Trust, to help children and families affected by serious, life-threatening or terminal childhood illness.[/p][p]In July, my dad and I will be joining over 60 other children and their parents hiking in Snowdonia for a weekend, including climbing one of the highest mountains in the region. I have never done anything like this before but being active myself I am looking forward to a tough but rewarding climb. Knowing how inactive my dad is, I am pretty sure watching him will also keep me amused throughout! We are funding the costs of the hike ourselves so all donations will go entirely to the two charities (more details below).[/p][p]Many thanks in advance for any donations, however small.[/p][p]Isabella and Simon xx[/p][p]Camp Simcha https://www.campsimcha.org.uk/[/p][p]Camp Simcha’s aim is to improve the quality of life for Jewish families affected by serious childhood illness. Overnight the world can change and ‘normal’ family life wiped out. Camp Simcha has over 23 practical, emotional and therapeutic support services which are specifically designed to help put families back together again. They help children from 0-18 and their families from all across the UK. In the past 12 months, Camp Simcha’s services team has made over 7,000 support calls throughout the UK; provided 2,500 hospital transport journeys, over 1,000 sessions of home-based art therapies, 500 counselling sessions and set up 80 packages of respite care. They run on average 25 events for families each year, as well as 4 annual retreats catering for over 3000 people. These powerful positive experiences provide brief periods of joy and normality that help keep families together during a time of extreme stress and turmoil.[/p][p]Rainbow Trust https://rainbowtrust.org.uk/[/p][p]Rainbow Trust supports families who have a child aged 0-18 years with a life threatening or terminal illness. Today there are an estimated 49,000 children and young people in the UK living with a life limiting or life threatening condition who may require palliative care. Many of these children and their families are able to cope or are not in a ‘crisis situation’. However, thousands of families have to face the very real possibility that their child may die and struggle to cope on a day to day basis. Family Support Workers in nine locations across the UK provide emotional and practical support for families at home, at hospital and in the community. They bring support and help to families who so desperately need it at home, in hospital and in the community. They support the whole family including parents, carers, the unwell child, brothers, sisters and grandparents. [/p]
