My story

[p]Suicide is the biggest killer of men under the age of 45 in the UK. When I learnt this fact, a few years ago, it shocked and saddened me greatly. Since then I have discovered that suicide has touched the lives of some of my closest friends and family. This, along with the TV documentaries I have watched on the subject, has had a huge impact on me and led me to want to do something to help. I always think if you care about something you should do something about it, in what little way you can. [/p][p]I want to raise awareness of this issue, and of mental health in general. I also want to raise funds for a charity that helps tackle these issues. To do this I am going to walk the entire length of the Somerset coastline; a 60-mile walk. Tackling this challenge will give me a reason to post regularly on social media about the issue of male suicide and mental health, as well as giving people the opportunity to sponsor me and donate vital funds to charity. [/p][p]The charity that I have chosen is Chasing the Stigma. They have three main strands of work: campaigning to raise awareness of the issues of suicide and mental health; running the Hub of Hope website and app; and training people to be Ambassadors of Hope. I particularly like their Hub of Hope portal that they have created, which signposts people to their local mental health support services. [/p][p]I will be doing the walk at the end of August over the course of 3 to 4 days. I would be extremely grateful if you would sponsor me. In many ways the walk is incidental, you aren't sponsoring me, you are donating money to a charity that helps save lives. Please give what you can, every amount helps, and know you are contributing towards a charity that is helping make the world a better place. [/p]
