My story

[p][br][/p][p]Breaking News[/p][p]My journey is complete and at 13:00 on Thursday the 28th of October I finished my round of the British Mountains.[/p][p][br][/p][p][/p][p]Climbing Britain’s 3000 ft Mountains[/p][p]Britain has 529 mountains over 3000 ft (914.4m) that I have been steadily ticking off for a number of years. By the end of October, when I top-out on Carn Dearg, near Loch Ossian (in the Central Scottish Highlands), I hope to have climbed them all. That’s a lot of miles, a lot of cheese sandwiches and numerous pairs of boots – especially when you consider that I am based in the flatlands of Surrey – a long way from any mountains.[/p][p]Climbing these hills has been an incredible journey, taking me to all corners of Britain’s stunning upland landscape, providing a physical challenge, relaxation, and a much-needed mental safety valve. [/p][p]I have experienced wonderful Alpine days of hard snow and clear blue skies; memorable sunsets over island-scattered seas and landskein vistas leading off to distant peaks (which all became increasingly familiar friends as my project progressed). [/p][p] [/p][p]Of course, these memorable days were inevitably counterbalanced by dreich plods through the clag, with eyes on the compass needle rather than non-existent views and only the patter of rain on Gore-Tex for company, often firmly in the category of "type 2 fun". There are several summits I am determined to re-visit in better conditions to see the much-lauded panoramas they supposedly offer. [/p][p] [/p][p]I am acutely aware that not everyone has access to these privileges and I would therefore be most appreciative of anything you felt you were able to contribute to two amazing charities, which aim to ensure that everyone now, and in the future, is able to get out on the hills and benefit from the healing power of Nature. [/p][p]The charity Mind over Mountains offers everyone the opportunity to “walk and talk” with experienced coaches, Mountain Leaders and counsellors in a restorative natural setting. Bursaries are offered to those dealing with financial hardship, making a mind and lifesaving difference to many.[/p][p]The John Muir Trust is a conservation charity dedicated to the experience, protection and repair of wild places. It owns some of Britain’s most iconic mountain landscapes (such as parts of the Lake District and the summit of Ben Nevis) and aims to connect, protect and restore wild places through education, acquisition and management. [/p][p]Thank you so much for your interest and support. Anything you give will help folk and our mountain environment now and in perpetuity.
