Team story

Hi, thanks for visiting our page. Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to RNCF. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.

UPDATE!

Woo we both finished in a time of 4 hours 39 minutes and 37 seconds! Very excited about this. THANK YOU everyone who has supported us.

Photos and a more in depth tale: http://sleepless-days.blogspot.com/2011/11/running-venice-marathon-2011.html

3 days to go...flight boarding passes - check, hotel - check, euros - check, insurance - check, guidebook and maps - check. Now to start on the packing and learning some Italian!

Week 15 of 16...race bibs have arrived, woo! Enjoying the shorter runs this week

Week 14 of 16...on the taper down now, so lots of shorter runs (only 10 miles!). It's taken a few days to recover from last week's 20 miler, but we've also been to a few weddings (congrats Matt & Elly and Dan & Vicky!!) Chasing up RNCF for our racing bibs and have ordered a Venice guidebook...how exciting!

Week 13 of 16...the hottest October day on record, and we were running 20 miles! It was going really well for the first 12 miles, Helen's shin wasn't in any pain (the rest has helped), but then we hit the sunshine and the 29.9degC! By mile 16 we had to stop in the nearest co-op and buy some more water and refuel. Very pleased we've done it, and hope it won't be this hot in Italy!

Week 12 of 16...this has been a tough week, Simon was in Tokyo with lots of work, typhoons and earthquakes so hasn't been able to train, and Helen has been getting a lot of pain in her left shin - treating with lots of ice, ibuprofen and rest. Don't think we'll make the 18 mile run this weekend, but fingers crossed to manage the 20 miles next weekend. Please pray for speedy recovery! Only a month left :)

Week 11 of 16...ran 16 miles along the seaside, running on the sand was difficult but it was especially beautiful. We've narrowed down the gels we like, orange was the winner!

Week 10 of 16...still feeling a bit tired from the 14 miles on Sunday, but have a week of shorter runs this week. Helen's trainers are getting a lot more comfy and the blisters are at bay for the time being. Started using running energy gels, and these are helping add the extra oomph on the long runs. Also trying out "For Goodness Shakes" milkshakes after the runs, which are helping with the recovery.

Week 9 of 16...have ordered our running bibs from RNCF. Hopefully we'll get a picture of us in our running gear soon. Simon's not done any long distance running before this, which will hopefully explain why this was the only photo of us I could find of us both running together!
