My story

[p]I am fundraising to help disadvantaged people overcome the damaging effects from lockdown by roller skating 32 miles on the 7th July.[/p][p]I’m hoping the CatZero experience will give them a new focus and enable them to develop the skills and confidence needed to positively move on with their life~ just like they did for me.[/p][p]———[/p][p]As most of you know in 2019 I cycled from Hornsea to Southport over 3 days for the Humber charity CatZero with 13 other cyclists~ You can find the video over on Youtube "CatZero Cycle Challenge 2019"[/p][p]After the success of the CCC19, I wanted a new challenge, a bigger challenge~ as part of my ‘yearly fundraiser’ challengers it was onto the next big challenge~ something that is going to push me to my current limit so after a visit to the Humber Bridge with my little brother we spoke about what I’ve done (walked, ran, cycled and drove) over the bridge, and he came up with “but have you roller skated over it?” Now the bridge is only 2 miles long so why not make it a little bit more challenging, why not skate over the Bridge and to CatZero HQ in Hull?[/p][p]But that was less than 10 miles and I needed something challenging, something nobody had really done before so after thinking about it more I decided I would skate from the Grimsby CatZero office (where I started my CatZero adventure) to the Hull HQ (where the charity itself began)[/p][p]~[/p][p]Now when I began this challenge I couldn’t skate. “So why skate if you can’t?” That’s a good question with a simple answer, I couldn’t ride a bike either but If I can learn and complete the 200 mile trip, I can also learn to skate and complete this challenge too.[/p][p]I want to show people that even thought you can’t do something now doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try! [/p][p]-[/p][p]Now Caz, why CatZero? Well let me tell you a story...[/p][p]Way back in 2018, I was suffering terribly with mental health, my depression and anxiety causing me to lock myself in my bedroom battling self harm and suicidal thoughts on a daily basis~ that had been my life for over a decade. I had no hope and couldn’t see a future for myself. It had got to a point where I had given myself a date to end it... that was before CatZero found me and they gave me a chance. [/p][p]The day of the intro was the same day I was going to end it all but the energy they gave off made me feel safe for the first time in years. Like the weight of the world was off my shoulders and I could start looking up and not down at my feet. [/p][p]They invited me onto a 12 week programme where I gain friends, a family and 6 work-based qualifications. I went rock-climbing, dinghy sailing, tried boxing, bowling and sea survival at HOTA, and even went sailing on their 72” challenger yacht!![/p][p]After my 12 week programme I managed to do so many things; to name a few~ I moved into my own house, got out more to volunteer in the community eventually becoming the local Beaver Scout Leader, managed to learn how to ride a bike to complete the CatZero cycle challenge. Signed up and completed my Gold DofE Award (within 18 months!) I have done so many incredible things in the past 2 years than I have in the past 10.[/p][p]CatZero did the impossible, they managed to do what so many others had failed at~ they helped me, saved me in fact. They gave me a bright future and hope again. When everyone else had turned their backs on me saying I was a lost cause. CatZero welcomed me with open arms into this incredible family “Show us what you can really do Caz” and just like that I was accepted, I finally found a place where I feel like I belong[/p][p]This is a charity very, very close to my heart and I want to do everything I possibly can to give back everything they have done for me. CatZero isn't just a charity it's a blessing~ It's a light at the end of the tunnel, a shelter during the storm and to so many of us a home.[/p][p]When I needed help and support CatZero was there, now it’s my turn to be there for them x[/p]
