My story

[p]As a male I thought I was doomed to be unhappy forever. I tried to take my own life. After giving up alcohol, getting psychological help I transformed my body because I was unhappy with it. From being unable to run for the bus, to running half marathons, losing a third of my body weight in 3 months, I gained confidence. I needed this confidence because after transforming my body I realized something still wasn't OK, I began to accept to myself that I am female. That I had always wished I was born female, and that instead of suicide, there was something I could do about it. It is something I had suppressed even to myself my whole life because it was completely taboo.[/p][p]I have now changed my name to Sofie, and I write more about what was happening on my blog where I came out ( sansshoelaces.com/2018/09/16/i-am-transitioning-to-female/ ).The blog is called sans shoelaces because that is how I started to run in 2017. You see I was sectioned, and not trusted even to have my own shoelaces. I ran around a small tennis court In a mental hospital 330 miles from my family. Now I am taking on the London marathon on 28th April 2019 in order to raise funds for the LGBT foundation. I will keep everyone updated on my training on here and through my blog, it could be an interesting training period as I hope to start hormone replacement therapy between now and the race. [/p][p]With the transition there are bigger highs and lower lows than before. Being trans it can be difficult enough, going outside can be hard especially in the beginning, my mood is fragile and it is extremely distressing to look at the news to see how we are being represented, to have my identity up for debate. I attend the LGBT foundation when I can for meetings with trans and non-binary people who know what I am going through, I also went before I transitioned to seek help from people who have been through it. The LGBT foundation is a national charity delivering advice support and information to lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans communities. They are somewhere I can go for legal advice, medical advice, trans advocacy and support. I was motivated to raise money for them because I felt powerless to help others, and dismayed at the media attack on trans and non binary people and they along with the Virgin Money Lounge in Manchester organized extra places in the London Marathon. I know people in much worse situations than myself because of being trans, you can lose your family, your job, become homeless. The LGBT foundation helps us and stands up for us, it gives me hope. Please help them to do what they do.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Update #1 : https://sansshoelaces.com/2018/12/15/london-marathon-update-1-600meters/[/p]
